Bicycle Suspension Seat Post (Cannondale) – Structural Weakness (2005)

The recall involves Lee Chi model 1-X bicycle suspension seat posts. The seat post was manufactured by a component manufacturer for Cannondale and installed on various 2005 model year Cannondale brand bicycles. These seat posts have a natural anodized aluminum finish, a 1-X logo is laser etched on the outer tube, and a black, yellow and red instruction booklet with the 1-X logo is attached. Lee Chi is also known as Promax, but the seat posts are not marked with either name. Specific Cannondale bicycle models with affected seat posts are listed in the table below. Cannondale Handlebar Bags – Attachment Failure (2004)

The recall involves 2004 and 2005 models of black handlebar bags. They are the quick-release-type bag, with a support and sleeve to secure it to the bicycle. The "Crossroads" model number is BHB322 and the "Perimeter" model number is BHB320, which can be found on the packaging. The model name and number is not written on the product. The Cannondale logo is on the front of the bags. Only bags with the pattern of reflective material and logo shown below are included in the recall. Older bags that have an American flag sewn into an outer seam or have a "Cannondale Made in USA" tag on an inner seam are not included in the recall.

Cannondale Recalls ATVs Recall Alert U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 August 15, 2001 Alert #01-517 CPSC, Cannondale Corp. Announce Recall of ATVs PRODUCT: All-Terrain Vehicles - Cannondale Corp., of Bethel, Conn., is voluntarily recalling about 630 model year 2001 and 2002 All-Terrain Vehicles. The Cannondale "FX 400" and Cannondale "Cannibal" are four- wheeled all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). The FX 400 and Cannibal models have "Cannondale" and "FX 400" or "Cannibal" on both sides of the vehicle. Cannondale appears on the rear fenders and bodywork of the vehicle; "Cannibal" appears roughly inboard of the operator's knee location; "FX400" appears on the seat of the vehicle. Cannondale dealers nationwide sold these ATVs from February 2001 through mid-July 2001 for between $7,000 and $8,000. PROBLEM: The ball joints in the A-arm assembly on these vehicles can break, which could cause the front wheels to lose stability. Also, the tie-rod assemblies on these vehicles can break or work loose, and damage either the steering column plate end or knuckle. If the ball joints or a tie rod end breaks, the operator can lose control of the vehicle during use and crash. INCIDENTS/INJURIES: Cannondale Corp. has received five reports of the ball joints in the A-arm assembly on these ATVs breaking and two reports of the tie-rod ends breaking. One consumer suffered a concussion and another suffered a bruised shoulder. WHAT TO DO:Consumers should stop riding these ATVs and contact their local Cannondale dealer to schedule an appointment to have the ball joints and tie-rod assemblies replaced free of charge. If possible, consumers should contact the dealer where they purchased their ATV. Cycling Shoes Recall by Cannondale NEWS from CPSC U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT:Nychelle White June 9, 1997 (301) 504-7063 Release # 97-139 CPSC and Cannondale Announce Recall of Cycling Shoes WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Cannondale of Georgetown, Conn., is recalling 15,000 pairs of C-Soles cycling shoes because the cleats could pull out of the sole. This could cause a cyclist's foot to slip off the pedal, leading to an injury. Cannondale has received about 35 reports of cleats pulling out of the soles of the shoes. Some minor injuries have been reported. The C-Soles cycling shoes are multi-color, adult-sizes only. The cleats are selected by the consumer depending upon their bicycle pedal system. The cleats are fitted to the shoe by the dealer. The cycling shoes were sold at Cannondale dealers nationwide from early 1997 through April 1997 for between $59.99 and $79.99 a pair. Cannondale dealer for a free upgrade. Cannondale dealers will install a thin metal backing plate inside the shoe, under the insole. The backing plate provides a firmer attachment for the cleat, with only a minimal increase in the sole's stiffness. Bicycle Forks Recalled by Cannondale NEWS from CPSC U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 29, 1985 Release # 85-060 Cannondale Recalls Bicycle Forks Washington, D.C. -- In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Cannondale Corporation of Georgetown, Connecticut, has announced a voluntary recall of approximately 5,000 forks used on its Model SR900, SR600 and SRSOO bicycles and Model SF900 and SF500 framesets. The estimated retail cost of these bicycles ranged between $595 and $995. The firm has received some complaints of problems with these forks that have resulted in a loosening of the steering tube in some bicycles. Cannondale is voluntarily replacing these forks free of charge to prevent the possibility of injuries from falls due to a loss of control of the bicycle. Anyone who purchased one of these bicycles prior to 1985 and has not yet had it repaired should stop riding the bike immediately and take it to a local authorized Cannondale bicycle dealer who will, should the fork be one of the defective ones, replace the fork free of charge.
