Company Phone Number: (800) 558-7651 July 7, 1998 Release # 98-138 WASHINGTON, DC - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Bemis Manufacturing Co. of Sheboygan Falls, Wis., is recalling about 5,000 plastic lawn chairs. The chairs sustained damage during shipment, causing them to collapse unexpectedly while in use. Bemis has received four reports of chairs collapsing, resulting in minor injuries. These plastic lawn chairs come in white, green and taupe. The five-position folding recliner has an extra-wide seat, measuring about 22 inches, and was sold under the Grand Sequoia brand name. "Model 2068" is embossed on the underside of the seat. Department stores nationwide, including Sears and Costco, sold the chairs from January 1998 through June 1998 for about $40. Consumers should stop using these lawn chairs immediately and return them to the store where purchased for a refund. Announce Recall to Repair Mountain Bikes WASHINGTON, D.C.- In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Rand/Ross Bicycle Co., of Farmingdale, N.Y., is recalling for adjustment 11,000 mountain bikes. The front suspension fork can separate from the frame of these bikes, causing riders to lose control and fall. Rand/Ross is aware of five reports of serious injuries which reportedly occurred when an improperly adjusted front suspension fork separated from the frame. These injuries included facial fractures and lacerations. These mountain bikes were distributed under the names Rock Machine 2600, Rock Machine 3600, Tarantula MRX 1200 and Ross Mt. Washington. They are adult sized and sold in various colors including silver and gray, blue, moss green, burgundy, metallic green and luster yellow. Their name and model numbers are written on the bike frames. Target, Price-Costco, Toys R Us and a limited number of bicycle shops sold these bicycles nationwide from February 1997 to March 1998 for about $200 to $300. Consumers should stop using the bicycles immediately and call Rand/Ross toll free at (800) 338-7677, extension #263 between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT Monday through Friday. Consumers will be given the name of a local bicycle dealer/shop/technician who will make the appropriate tightening adjustment with a torque wrench free of charge. If consumers wish to make the adjustment themselves, they will be sent a free retro-fit kit. The retro-fit kit contains a 6-inch 6mm allen wrench and instructions for tightening the bolts.
Animated Santa Recalled by PriceCostco NEWS from CPSC U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Ken Giles December 23, 1996 (301) 504-7052 Release # 97-052 CPSC and PriceCostco Recall Animated Santa WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), PriceCostco is voluntarily recalling its 30" Deluxe Animated Santa with Light and Music. There have been four reports of animated Santas overheating and melting, which may have been caused by a defective capacitor. PriceCostco is recalling this product to prevent further incidents. Approximately 66,263 animated Santas have been sold in Costco and Price Club US warehouses between August 5, 1996, and December 20, 1996, as item number 63404. This safety notice and recall applies only to the Deluxe 30" Animated Santa with Light and Music sold as item number 63404 and does not apply to any other animated Christmas items sold in PriceCostco warehouses. Consumers should unplug the Santa immediately and return it to any Costco or Price Club warehouse for a full refund. Consumers may contact PriceCostco at (800) 774-2678 if you have any questions.
November 9, 1994 Release # 95-024 WASHINGTON, D.C. - CPSC, PriceCostco of Kirkland, Wash., is recalling about 17,000 reindeer Christmas stockings. During CPSC testing, a small gold colored bead on the reindeer's antlers pulled off, presenting a potential choking hazard to young children. PriceCostco originally sold the stockings, item number 74503 (COSTCO) and item number 79750 (Price Club), from September to December 1993, and CPSC and PriceCostco recalled them in December 1993. CPSC and PriceCostco are re-announcing this recall as consumers begin to take these stockings out of storage for the upcoming holiday season.The 20-inch Christmas stocking, which sold for $9.99, is made of a soft red, green, and white furry material with a 4-inch white border on top and the words "Merry Christmas" embroidered on the front just below a pocket that holds a sewn-in stuffed white reindeer. The 10-inch reindeer has a green fur nose and green fur hooves, feet, and antlers with a gold colored bead sewn on each antler. The ears, a bow tie on the reindeer, and the bottom of the feet are red. A tag sewn in the seam of the stocking reads, in part, "Chrisha, Playful Plush, Made in Indonesia."If the beads have not already been removed, CPSC and PriceCostco urge consumers to either remove and discard the beads from the reindeer's antlers or return the stocking to the store where purchased for a full refund.Neither CPSC, the manufacturer Chrisha Creation Limited of Greenville, R.I., nor PriceCostco is aware of any injuries involving these stockings. May 20, 1994 Release # 94-077 PRODUCT: Approximately 63,000 Dell Model DL-1460NI 14 inch SVGA color computer monitors sold by Dell, Sam's Club, Costco, Price Club, and CompUSA. PROBLEM: Internal components may overheat causing a fire hazard. WHAT TO DO: Consumers using Dell computer monitors should look for the model number "DL-1460NI" on the back of the monitor. Those having model DL-1460NI monitors should call Dell at (800)913-3355 to arrange for shipping and repair of the monitor. WASHINGTON, DC -- CPSC, Dell Computer Corp., Austin, Texas is voluntarily recalling Dell model DL-1460NI 14 inch SVGA computer monitors. Internal components in the Dell model DL- 1460NI monitor can overheat, and the monitor can catch fire. Dell Computer Corporation has received 32 reports of monitors overheating, and in some cases, catching fire. None of the reported incidents involved personal injury and the reported fires did not spread. Dell reported this problem to the CPSC. Dell Computer imported the monitors from a Taiwanese manufacturer in 1992 and 1993. The involved monitors were sold by Dell directly, and at Sam's Club, Costco, Price Club, and CompUSA. Approximately 63,000 involved monitors are believed to be in use. Consumers using Dell computer monitors should look for the model number on the back of their monitors. Only model DL-1460NI monitors are involved. Consumers having these monitors should unplug the monitors, and call Dell's recall number (800) 913-3355 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Eastern Time, Saturday to arrange for free pick-up and repair of the monitors. Owners may also obtain information and register for repair through Dell's computer bulletin board (512-728-3589), the Dell forum on Compuserve and America On-Line. The Company will send packing materials overnight to owners of the monitors. Airborne Express will then pick up the monitors for return of the repaired unit in 3-5 working days. Consumers should not call any other Dell 800 number, or any retailer from whom the monitor may have been purchased, as this will only delay repair of the monitor.
