February 10, 1995 Release # 95-078 Washington, D.C. - CPSC, Dan Brechner and Co. Inc., of Floral Park, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling about 60,000 bracelets, model numbers 351-036 and 351-038, and 3,000 wooden dump trucks, model number TS 805 because of small parts that can be a hazard for young children.CPSC testing found that the beads can come off the bracelets. If ingested by young children, the beads can be inhaled into the lungs, causing breathing problems, recurring pneumonia, and even lung collapse that can lead to death. Testing of the wooden dump truck found that the figure in the driver's seat broke off the toy, which could cause a serious choking hazard to young children. To date, neither Dan Brechner nor CPSC has received reports of accidents or injuries associated with the bracelets or wooden dump truck.The model 351-036 bracelet has 10 pink, yellow, green, and orange round beads that are separated by black and white disks. The model 351-038 bracelet has eight salmon and white oblong twisted beads that are separated by eight smaller white beads. The beads are strung together on a white elastic cord, which makes the bracelets easy to slip on-and-off a young child's wrist.The 4 by 2-inch wooden dump truck is a red and natural wood color. It has a blue figure with a yellow cap in the driver's seat, the dump truck's bed can be lifted and lowered, and the truck rolls easily when pushed. The trucks are sold in a box labeled in part, "EDUCATIONAL WOOD WORLD. . . DUMP TRUCK . . . TS 805 . . . MADE IN CHINA." A sticker underneath the dump truck reads, "MADE IN CHINA."Dan Brechner distributed the recalled bracelets, which sold for $1.00, from May 1993 through August 1994. The recalled wooden dump trucks sold for $1.50 from May 1993 through August 1994. The bracelets and dump truck were sold nationwide at Sugar Loaf Mkt. Inc., Dream Machine, Amusement Games of Texas, Comeimex, Funspot, Dollar Fantasy, Funarama, Todi Toys Inc., and M.R. Distributing stores.Consumers should take the bracelets and dump truck away from young children immediately and destroy, discard, or if possible, return them to the store where they were purchased for a refund. March 20, 1990 Release # 90-053 Riding Rabbit Wind-Up Toy Recalled WASHINGTON, DC -- In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Dan Brechner and Co., Inc. of Floral Park, New York, is voluntarily recalling its "Riding Rabbit" wind-up toy because the toy may break into small parts posing a potential choking hazard to young children. The "Riding Rabbit" wind-up toy is made of yellow or pink plastic and is about six inches in height. The rabbit has a white face with an orange nose and a white stomach, and a decal of three stars and a blue cloud. When wound-up, the rabbit's head rocks while it "rides" around on what appears to be a unicycle. Approximately 5,400 of these Riding Rabbits were sold nationwide, particularly on the East Coast, from January 1988 to February 1989 for approximately $5.00 each. CPSC discovered this small part violation when a sample was collected and tested for compliance with safety requirements. Neither CPSC nor Dan Brechner and Co., Inc. is aware of any injuries associated with this toy. Consumers who have these Riding Rabbits should immediately take them away from children and return them to the retailer where purchased for a full refund of the purchase price. Pacifiers Recalled By Dan Brechner & Co. NEWS from CPSC U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 6, 1986 Release # 86-05 Pacifiers Recalled Because Of Possible Choking Hazards WASHINGTON, DC - In cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Dan Brechner & Co., Inc., of Floral Park, New York, today announced a voluntary recall of CHUPETE AND BABY brand Pacifiers Nos. 985-060 and 969-644, because of a potential choking hazard. When these pacifiers were tested for compliance with the CPSC safety requirements, the nipples separated. The separated nipples could present a choking hazard. Neither Dan Brechner & Co., Inc., nor the CPSC know of any injuries or deaths associated with these pacifiers. The involved pacifiers have a brown rubber nipple attached to a round plastic shield, which is white, pink, blue or red. The packages are labeled with the Style No. 985-060 or 969-644. The articles were made in Hong Kong. Dan Brechner & Co., Inc, imported approximately 360,000 of these pacifiers from Hong Kong and distributed them between March 1984 and July 1985 in Puerto Rico. The pacifiers were sold for less than $1.00. Consumers should stop using these pacifiers immediately return them to the retailer where they were purchased for a full refund. Mini Shadowy Stand Lamp - Fourth Warning NEWS from CPSC U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 21, 1974 Release # 74-011 CPSC Issues Fourth Warning Of Electric Shock Hazard In Lamp WASHINGTON, D.C.(Feb. 21) --Consumers who have purchased the "Mini Shadowy Stand" lamp from discount stores or retail shops are urged to discontinue use of the lamp because it contains defects which could result in fatal electric shock, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said today. The Commission warns consumers to use extreme care when unplugging the lamp and to avoid touching any metal objects while doing so. Consumers should return the lamp to the dealer from whom it was purchased for a full refund. The Commission issued its fourth warning about the "Rainbow Lamp" following a report that an additional 4,800 of the hazardous revolving novelty lights have been sold to retail outlets nationwide by Dan Brechner & Company, Inc., an import company located at 1115 Broadway, New York, New York. The firm has agreed to alert the retail outlets to the hazard by direct mail and to repurchase the lamp from them. The company listed the lamps, which were sold by the dozen, as Item Number 64219. The lamps were manufactured by Hsin Hsin Handicraft Factory in Taipei, Taiwan. The first warning to consumers was issued by the Commission on February 6th regarding 35,000 lamps sold mail order by Greenland Studios, Miami, Florida. Subsequently, it was found that another 20,000 of the lamps had been sold to consumers through catalogs and stores by Spencer Gifts, Inc., Atlantic City, New Jersey, and by Nancy Sales Company, Charlestown, Massachusetts. All of the lamps involved in the warnings have been imported from Taiwan. They were sold to consumers for about $1.99. Commission officials said that the lamp, which was designed to cast shadows of various shapes on the wall, also may have been sold in the United States by several other firms.
