August 24, 1992 Release # 92-126 PRODUCT: F.J. Strauss "Musical Toothbrush Trainer" sold by Toys "R" Us nationwide from February 1, 1991 to January 31, 1992. The set contains a baby's toothbrush and gum massager, and a musical handle for the toothbrush and the massager. PROBLEM: The gum massager attached to the toothbrush may come off, posing a choking hazard. WHAT TO DO: Immediately discontinue using and discard the gum massager. Return the "Musical Toothbrush Trainer" to Toys "R" Us with proof of purchase for a full refund. For more information, consumers may call 1-800-548-0364. WASHINGTON, DC -- In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Toys "R" Us of Paramus, NJ announces the voluntary recall of the F.J. Strauss "Musical Toothbrush Trainer Set." The set contains a baby's toothbrush and gum massager, and a musical handle for the toothbrush and the massager. F.J. Strauss, manufacturer of the product, is no longer in business. Toys "R" Us, Inc. has agreed to participate in this recall and inform customers of the potential hazard. The tip of the gum massager may come off. Because the toothbrush set is recommended for children six months and up, the massager, if detached, presents a choking hazard. Consumers who own an F.J. Strauss Musical Toothbrush Trainer Set should immediately discontinue use and discard the gum massager. Consumers who purchased the F.J. Strauss Musical Toothbrush Trainer Sets from Toys "R" Us are asked to return them to the store with proof of purchase for a full refund. For more information, consumers may call 1- 800-548-0364. Approximately 17,000 toothbrush trainers were sold nationwide by Toys "R" Us from February 1, 1991, to January 31, 1992 for $2.99 each. Toys "R" Us has removed all units from their shelves as a precaution and has cooperated with the Commission by providing product samples and information concerning the product. CPSC was informed of this potential hazard by Toys "R" Us after the firm received a complaint from a customer whose child had bitten off the gum massager. The child was not injured in the incident. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is announcing this recall as part of its mission to protect the public from unreasonable risks of injury and death associated with consumer products. The Commission's mission is to reduce the estimated 28.5 million injuries and 21,600 deaths associated each year with the 15,000 different types of consumer products under CPSC's jurisdiction
Peek-A-Boo Clown Baby Toys Recalled by F.J. Strauss NEWS from CPSC U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 8, 1986 Release # 86-061 Baby Toys Recalled Because of Choking Hazard Washington, DC -- In cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, F.J. STRAUSS Co., INC., North Bergen, New Jersey, today announced a voluntary recall of a Peek-A-Boo Clown because of the danger of choking or suffocation to infants and young children. Since February 1985, approximately 2880 of these baby toys have been sold for approximately $3.00 each nationwide. These baby toys are banned under CPSC's Small Parts Requirements because they have parts which are small enough to lodge in an infant's throat and cause obstruction of the airway. Neither CPSC nor Strauss of any injuries involving these toys. The Peek-A-Boo Clown, Style #29/31 is approximately four inches in diameter and made of red, white, blue and yellow molded plastic with a pop up clown head. The item is labeled "Made in Taiwan. " Consumers should remove these products from use immediately and either discard them or return them to the retailer where purchased for a full refund. Barrels, Clowns and Bead Rattles Recalled by F.J. Strauss NEWS from CPSC U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 5, 1985 Release # 85-062 Baby Toys Recalled Because Of Choking Hazard WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, F.J. STRAUSS CO., INC., North Bergen, New Jersey, today announced a voluntary recall of three styles of baby toys because of the danger of choking or suffocation to infants and young children. Since March of 1984, approximately 2,585 dozens of these baby toys have been sold for approximately $2.50 to $5.00 nationwide. These baby toys are banned under CPSC's Small Parts and Rattle Requirements because they have parts which are small enough to lodge in an infant's throat and cause obstruction of the airway. Neither CPSC nor Strauss knows of any injuries involving these toys. Three items are involved. One is style #29/2 "Big Barrel", which was sold in a white package with a one piece red barrel on the outside. This toy has two pieces orange, green, white, yellow, blue and red barrels of various sizes that fit into each other. The firm had also marketed a later version of the style #29/2 "Big Barrel" which has five barrels and is not subject to this recall program. This later version was sold in a white package with three open barrels on the outside. The second style is identified as #29/5 "Magic Clown". This toy is a plastic blue and yellow ball with a red colored clown figure sitting on top. The third style is identified as #29/7 "Big Bead Rattle". This toy has six plastic ovals that are strung on a nylon string forming a loop connected to a white plastic handle. All three items were imported from Taiwan. Consumers should remove these products from use immediately and either discard them or return them to the retailer where purchased for a full refund.
