The recalled children's chests and dressers are taller than 23.5 inches and adult chests and dressers are taller than 29.5 inches. The 29 million units of recalled chests and dressers include: MALM 3-drawer, 4-drawer, 5-drawer and three 6-drawer models and other children's and adult chests and dressers. The MALM chests and dressers are constructed of particleboard or fiberboard and are white, birch (veneer), medium brown, black-brown, white stained oak (veneer), oak (veneer), pink, turquoise, gray, gray-turquoise, lilac, green, brown stained ash (veneer), and black. A 5-digit supplier number, 4-digit date stamp, IKEA logo, country of origin and "MALM" are printed on the underside of the top panel or inside the side panel. Since 1996, IKEA chests and dressers have been labeled to identify IKEA, the model name and the manufacturing date.

The recalled IKEA children's SMILA-series wall-mounted lamps were sold in eight designs, including a blue star, yellow moon, pink flower, white flower, red heart, green bug, blue seashell and an orange seahorse. The blue star is the STJÄRNA model with article numbers 501.944.49 or 500.108.79. The yellow moon is the MÅNE model with article numbers 701.944.48 or 700.108.40. The pink flower is the BLOMMA model with article numbers 901.944.47 or 000.979.50. The white flower is the BLOMMA model with article number 300-746-50. The red heart is the HJÄRTA model with article numbers 202.256.59 or 801.993.13. The green bug is the BAGGE model with article numbers 101.944.46 or 700.728.71. The blue seashell is the SNÄCKA model with article number 400-982-50. The orange seahorse is the SJÖHÄST model with article number 900-982-43. The model name is printed on a label on the inside back of the lamp near the light bulb. The article number is printed on the lamp's packaging. Announce Futon Recall WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), The Standard Mattress Co., of Hartford, Conn., is voluntarily recalling approximately 47,000 futons. Some of these futons may fail cigarette ignition resistance tests, in violation of the federal Flammable Fabrics Act, because the boric acid flame retardant inside the futons may not have been evenly disbursed. This could result in burn injuries, should one of these futons catch fire. CPSC and The Standard Mattress Co. are not aware of any fires or injuries involving these futons. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injuries. The futons being recalled were sold between May 1998 and October 1998 with model numbers 605, 608, 611, and 613, sold under the brand names of Gold Bond, IKEA, and Verlo. The model number and brand name are located on the permanently sewn-in label. The futons come in varied sizes, most of which are full size. Other sizes include king/chair, queen and twin. All are covered in a cotton/polyester fabric in a natural (off-white) color. Furniture and futon stores nationwide sold the futons from May 1998 through October 1998 for $140 to $250. Consumers who purchased one of these futons during this period should immediately call The Standard Mattress Co. toll-free at (800) 873-8498 anytime to obtain a free replacement futon. Consumers should not return the futons to the stores where they purchased them. Replacements are available only by calling the company.

The red ball that tops this toy poses a choking hazard to young children. IKEA has received one report of a 4-year-old boy in Europe choking to death on the top ball portion of the stacking ring toy. No other injuries have been reported. The stacking ring toy, called "MULA," is 8.5 inches high. The toy consists of eight brightly colored, wooden rings; a red, top ball; and a pedestal base with a stacking rod. When all the pieces are stacked in order, the toy resembles an inverted cone with the red ball capping it. There is a sticker under the pedestal base with the words, "Design and Quality" and "IKEA of Sweden" written on it. The toy is packaged in either a white cardboard box with "MULA" printed in orange, or sold shrink-wrapped with "MULA" and "Stacking rings" printed on the plastic wrapping. IKEA stores nationwide sold these stacking toys from October 1991 through April 1999 for about $6. Consumers should take the red ball that tops this toy away from children immediately. Consumers can mail the ball to IKEA or take it to any IKEA store to receive a redesigned top piece. The red ball can be mailed to IKEA U.S. Inc., 496 West Germantown Pike, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462. Postage costs will be reimbursed. Consumers also can return the stacking ring toy to any IKEA store for a refund. The stuffed animals' eyes can become detached, presenting a choking hazard to young children. CPSC and IKEA are not aware of any injuries involving these stuffed animals. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury. There are 12 types of stuffed animals involved in this recall: a large penguin (model no. 97210280), a moose (model no. 27217770), a bear (model no. 97192870), a dolphin neckpillow and a bear neckpillow (both with model no. 29311596), a large cat (model no. 37211230), a small cat (model no. 17211330), and a dog, a monkey, a cow, a small penguin, and a hippopotamus (all with model no. 27204796). The stuffed animals have sewn-on tags that display the model number and are also labeled in part, "IKEA...Made in India." IKEA stores nationwide sold the stuffed animals from January 1997 through May 1997 for between $3 and $15. Consumers should take these stuffed animals away from young children immediately and return them to the nearest IKEA store for a full refund or exchange for another soft toy.
