Phil-am Trading, Inc. is recalling Phil-am Smoked Mackerel (Hasa-Hasa), because it has the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium which can cause life-threatening illness or death.
Product contains unallowable dyes: 16255 - Ponceau 4R (E124 - Acid Red 18 and 15510 - Orange II - Acid Orange 7; and undeclared FD&C Yellow #5.
This recall has been initiated due to suspected but, as of the writing of this letter (1/17/2013), unconfirmed Clostridium botulinum (C. botulinum) contamination.
