Polaris model year 2002 PRO X snowmobiles with model numbers S02NX4CS (2002 440 Pro X Liquid), S02NX4CSR (2002 440 Rolling Chassis), S02NX4FS (2002 440 Pro X Fan), S02NX6ES (2002 600 Pro X), P03NX4FS (2003 440 Pro X Fan, pilot), PO3NX6ES (2003 600 Pro X, pilot) are part of this recall. The snowmobiles have red hoods and nose pans with white and blue graphics. The model number can be found on the right side of the tunnel, where the right foot is placed, when seated on the snowmobile. The snowmobiles were manufactured in the U.S.A.

The ATVs are either red or a tan metallic, and have "Xpedition 425" and "Polaris" written on both sides of the bodywork. On the left-hand side of the ATV on the clutch cover, near the footrest, appear the words "5-Speed".

Announce Recall of All-Terrain Vehicles WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Polaris Industries Inc., of Minneapolis, Minn., is voluntarily recalling about 13,600 All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). The throttles on these ATVs can stick, preventing the ATV from slowing down when released. This can cause the vehicle to lose control and crash, resulting in severe injury or death. Polaris has received 26 reports of problems with the throttles on these ATVs. There have been 17 reports of crashes resulting in six consumers suffering injuries. The recall includes some model year 1999 Scrambler, Sport, and Xplorer 400 ATVs, and some model year 2000 Scrambler and Xplorer 400 ATVs. "Polaris" and the model name are written on both sides of the ATVs. Polaris dealers will help consumers determine if their ATV is part of this recall. Polaris ATV dealers nationwide sold these ATVs from December 1998 through July 2000 for between $4,800 and $5,900. Consumers should stop using these ATVs immediately. Registered owners of the recalled Polaris ATVs were notified by mail about the recall, and also will be contacted by their dealer to schedule a free ATV repair. Consumers should contact their local ATV dealer to get more information about the recall. The hydraulic disc brakes on these snowmobiles can fail, resulting in serious injury or death to riders. Polaris is aware of 17 reports of the brakes on these snowmobiles failing. No injuries have been reported. The recall includes all 1999 models with hydraulic disc brakes and certain 2000 model Polaris snowmobiles. The word "Polaris" is written on the front of the hood and the sides of the seat of these snowmobiles. The snowmobiles were sold under numerous model names and numbers, and in a wide variety of colors. Polaris dealers nationwide sold these snowmobiles from June 1998 through July 1999 for between $4,000 and $8,000. Consumers should arrange now to have their snowmobile's disc brakes replaced for free at their local Polaris dealer before the winter riding season begins. Polaris also will replace the snowmobiles' brake pads at no charge. Registered owners will be notified by mail, and will be contacted by the selling dealer to schedule an appointment. The snowmobile's steering pitman arm can crack in the weld area, and consumers can lose control of the snowmobile and crash. Polaris has received 21 reports of steering pitman arms cracking and in some instances, consumers have lost control of the snowmobiles. No injuries have been reported. Consumers should stop using these snowmobiles immediately and contact their Polaris dealer to have the steering pitman arm replaced for free. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Polaris Industries Partners L.P. of Minneapolis, Minn., is announcing the voluntary recall of 19,327 Polaris snowmobiles. On some snowmobiles, the handlebars were not completely welded to the steering posts. If the handlebars break, a driver could lose control of the snowmobile and cause an accident or crash. Polaris is aware of three snowmobile accidents resulting from the handlebars breaking due to an incomplete weld. One driver received a minor injury. In January, Polaris initiated this recall by contacting consumers directly through letters and Polaris service bulletin number SB96-05. Consumers who own these snowmobiles should stop using them immediately and return them to any authorized Polaris dealer for inspection, unless they have already responded to the letter they received regarding this and had their snowmobile inspected. The snowmobile's engine coolant tank may expand, interfering with the operation of the brakes. Snowmobile drivers or riders could be injured or killed if the brakes fail. Polaris is aware of one injury allegedly involving the snowmobile coolant tank. Snowmobiles (Polaris) - Brake Lever Issue (1992)

November 30, 1992 Release # 93-023 PRODUCT: Polaris Industries LP snowmobiles - certain 1990, 1991, and 1992 models. PROBLEM: If the parking brake lever is left engaged during use, the brakes could overheat. This presents a possible fire hazard. WHAT TO DO: Consumers with affected models should return the snowmobile to Polaris authorized dealers for removal of the parking brake lever. For more information call 1-800-342-3764. WASHINGTON, DC -- CPSC, Polaris Industries LP, Minneapolis, MN, is voluntarily notifying owners of its 1990 - 1992 model snowmobiles of reported problems with operation of the parking brake. The snowmobile's parking brake, if left engaged during use, may cause overheating and possible fire. These snowmobiles can present a serious risk of injury to the rider due to fire, as well as major property damage to the machine. Polaris Industries LP has received 206 reports of fires to users' snowmobiles. No injuries are reported but the fires occurred when the snowmobiles were being ridden. The 1990, 1991, and 1992 model snowmobiles were sold nationwide and in Canada from April 1989 to the present by Polaris dealers. All Polaris 1990, 1991, and 1992 models with hydraulic brakes are involved. Consumers should take their machines to a Polaris authorized dealers for removal of the parking brake lever if they do not need or use the park brake. Consumers who need more information can call Polaris Industries LP toll-free at 1-800-342-3764. Polaris Industries LP will modify affected products free of charge and supply a free warning label to attach to the snowmobile dashboard. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is announcing this modification program as a part of its mission to protect the public from unreasonable risks of injury and death associated with consumer products. The Commission's objective is to reduce the estimated 28.5 million injuries and 21,600 deaths associated each year with the 15,000 different types of consumer products under CPSC's jurisdiction. 1986 Polaris Indy Trail And Indy 400 Snowmobiles Recall NEWS from CPSC U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 19, 1987 Release # 87-071 Safety Recall Of 1986 Polaris Indy Trail And Indy 400 Snowmobiles WASHINGTON, DC -- In cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Polaris Industries, Minneapolis, Minnesota today announced a voluntary recall from consumers of all 1986 Polaris Indy Trail Snowmobiles, Models No. 0860761 and 0860661 and 1986 Polaris Indy 400 Snowmobiles, Model No. 0860759. The brake caliper bridge bolt nuts may loosen and cause the loss of brakes. Polaris is aware of eight reported instances where the nuts came loose. All resulted in vehicle damage and one resulted in personal injury involving a bruised chest and stomach. The snowmobiles have been sold since 1985 through approximately 850 U.S. Polaris dealers nationwide. Users are cautioned not to use the snowmobiles until the replacement, locking nuts are installed and torgued to 17ft/lbs. The retail price of the snowmobiles range from $3499 to $3749. Only the 1986 Polaris Indy Trail, Models No. 0860761 and 0860661 and the 1986 Polaris Indy 400, Model No. 0860759 snowmobiles are affected. The recall involves 9268 snowmobiles. Consumers should contact their dealer to see if locking nuts 3/8-24 NF have been installed on the brake caliper assembly of their 1986 Indy Trail or 1986 Indy 400 Snowmobile according to Polaris Service Bulletin No. S-86-07. If this change has not been performed, consumers should make arrangements with their dealer for this correction.
