Announce Recall of Inflatable Baby Floats WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Kmart Corporation of Troy, Mich., is conducting a recall of approximately 114,000 "Splash Club" Deluxe Baby Floats. The seat of the pool toy can tear at the seam causing children to unexpectedly fall into the water and possibly drown. Kmart has received one report of the float's seat tearing and causing a child to fall into the water. No injuries have been reported. The Deluxe Baby Floats are vinyl and consist of an orange inflatable circular tube with a blue interior ring. Writing on the float includes, "Super Kiddie Float . . . INTRODUCES YOUR CHILD TO WATER . . . SPLASH CLUB," and has a picture of a dolphin jumping through a hoop. The packaging is labeled with UPC Code 016438897266 or 016438100267, and Kmart Code 372953-117, located just above the price. Kmart stores nationwide sold the kiddie boats from September 1996 through August 1998 for about $6. On August 13, 1998, CPSC and Kmart recalled approximately 90,000 "Splash Club" Deluxe Inflatable Kiddie Boats. The seat of these pool toys also can tear, causing small children to unexpectedly fall into the water and possibly drown. Kmart received four reports of the boat's seats tearing and causing children to fall into the water. No injuries were reported. The Deluxe Inflatable Kiddie Boats are vinyl and consist of an orange inflatable circular tube with blue handles and a seat in the middle. The boats also have an inflatable, clear plastic barbell with various colored balls inside attached to the front of the boat. Writing on the boat includes, "KIDDIE BOAT . . INTRODUCES YOUR CHILD TO WATER . . . SPLASH CLUB," and has a picture of a dolphin jumping through a hoop. The boxes in which the boats were packaged are labeled with UPC Code 016438897204 or 016438100205 and Kmart Code 372954-115. Kmart stores nationwide sold the kiddie boats from September 1996 through July 1998 for about $10. Consumers should immediately stop using these baby floats, and return them to their nearest Kmart store for a refund. When being filled, the rockets can break apart under the water's pressure. Consumers can be injured seriously if they are hit by broken rocket pieces. CPSC and Ohio Art Company have received 37 reports of these rockets breaking apart while being filled, resulting in lacerations of a hand, shoulder, and forehead. The Splash Off Water Rocket is a made of red, yellow and clear plastic. The rocket measures 16 inches high and the rocket's launch pad measures 18 inches high. The words, "Splash Off" appear on the rocket's side. To launch the rocket, water from a garden hose is fed through a tube into the launch pad. When the launcher is filled with water, a launch ring is pressed down to execute lift-off. Toy and major retail stores nationwide sold the Splash Off Water Rockets from April 1997 through June 1997 for about $20. Consumers should stop using the Splash Off Water Rockets immediately and return them to the store where purchased for a full refund. The devices consist of four tall mortar tubes mounted on a wooden board or boards with a connecting single fuse. The fireworks display devices were manufactured from 1987 to the present and retailed for about $40. PROBLEM: The fireworks display devices may tip over during operation and fire their charges horizontally or at various angles, resulting in death or serious injury to persons nearby. WHAT TO DO: Consumers are urged to stop using these devices immediately and return them to the stores or stands where purchased for a full refund. WASHINGTON, DC -- CPSC, Starr Display Fireworks, Kindred, ND is voluntarily recalling all its #100, #200, and #300 four-shot rack fireworks display devices. The affected fireworks display devices may tip over during operation and fire their charges horizontally or at various angles, resulting in death or serious injury to persons nearby. Although the Commission is not aware of any incidents involving these particular fireworks, the Commission knows of two deaths involving similar devices that tipped over and then struck and killed the victims. The fireworks display devices were manufactured from 1987 to the present. The devices consist of four tall mortar tubes mounted on a wooden board or boards with a connecting single fuse. The tubes, used in combinations of four on the display devices, which are the subject of this recall, are as follows: Manufactured from 1987 to June 1992 - #100 Silver Palm, #100 Gold Palm, #100 Starr Mine, #100 Glittering Comet, #200 Crackling Delight, #200 Celestial Splender, #200 Mammoth Chrysanthemum, #200 Ring Shell, #200 Rain Willow, and #300 Four Effect. Manufactured from July to October 1992 - #100 Silver Palm, #100 Gold Palm, #100 Star Mine, #200 Crackling Delight, #200 Celestial Splender, #200 Rain Willow, #200 Mammoth Chrysanthemum, #300 Three Color Changing Chrysanthemum, #300 Crackling Rose, #300 Galaxy of Strobing Stars, and #300 Green Apple Tree. Manufactured from November 1992 to the present - #100 Silver Palm, #100 Golden Palm, #100 Three Color Changing, #100 Giant Glittering Comet, #100 Mammoth Chrysanthemum with Strobing Tail, #100 Mammoth Peony with Strobing Tail, #200 Golden Spider, #200 Celestial Splender, #200 Crackling Delight, #300 Color Changing Chrysanthemum, #300 Crackling Rose, #300 Galaxy of Strobing Stars, #300 Green Apple Tree, and #300 All American. All of the affected fireworks tubes have labels that read in part, "Starr Display Fireworks, Fargo, North Dakota." Each device consists of four tall tubes mounted on a 3-1/2 inch X 13-1/2 inch board. The boards have two support feet. PROBLEM: These devices may tip over during operation and fire their charges horizontally, resulting in possible serious injury to persons nearby. WHAT TO DO: Consumers are urged to discontinue use immediately and return these fireworks devices to the retail store where purchased for a full refund. The affected fireworks may tip over during operation and fire their charges horizontally, resulting in possible serious injury to persons nearby. Each device consists of four tall tubes mounted on a 3-1/2 inch x 13-1/2 inch board. The boards have two support feet. The tubes for the #100 Original are named "#100 Silver Palm," "#200 Crackling DeLight," "#100 Gold Palm," and "#100 Starr Mine." The tubes for the #100 Z are named "#100 Glittering Comet," "#100 Silver Palm," "#200 Celestial Splendor," and "#200 Crackling DeLight." The #100 Gold and Silver Palm has two tubes named "#100 Gold Palm," and two tubes named "#100 Silver Palm." All of the affected fireworks' tubes also have labels that read, in part: "Starr Display Fireworks, Fargo, North Dakota." Although the Commission is not aware of any incidents involving these particular products, the Commission is aware of one death involving a similar device, manufactured by another company, that tipped over and its charge allegedly struck a three-year-old in the head. The devices were sold through approximately 100 wholesalers to retail stores nationwide.
