The metal clip and the small rivet that attaches the clip to a small, stuffed animal on the pacifier holder can break apart easily, exposing babies to small parts. This poses a choking and aspiration hazard to babies. Rashti & Rashti received one report of a pacifier clip breaking apart. No injuries have been reported. The recalled Magic Years® Novelty Pacifier Buddy Clips were sold individually, and also as part of a set with a matching bib. The pacifier clip has a small, stuffed animal attached -- including a purple cat, yellow chick, blue dog, pink bunny, green bear and white sheep. The bib sold with the bib set has a large, sewn-on animal patch that matches the design of the pacifier animal.The clips and bib/clip sets are packaged on a yellow cardboard hangtag. "Magic Years®" and "PACIFIER CLIP" are written on the individual clip packaging. "Magic Years®", "Novelty bib and pacifier clip set" and "ALL ITEMS MADE IN CHINA" are written on the bib/clip set packaging. There is no writing on the pacifier clips or bibs. Gift and specialty stores sold the pacifier clips from September 1999 through June 2000. The pacifier clips sold individually for about $3, and the bib/pacifier clip sets sold for about $5. Backpack Baby Carriers WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Hufco-Delaware Co., of Miamisburg, Ohio, recalled about 111,000 Gerry® TrailTech? backpack baby carriers with plastic frames. Small infants can shift to one side, slip through the leg openings of these carriers and fall. CPSC and Hufco-Delaware have received four reports of infants slipping through the leg openings of these carriers. There were two reports of infants suffering fractured skulls and two reports of infants suffering bumped heads when they fell to the ground. These Gerry® TrailTech? backpack baby carriers have black, plastic contoured frames. They were sold in color combinations of slate blue with teal trim, green with black trim, navy blue and purple with green trim, and blue and purple with silver trim. A tag on the outside of the carrier reads "GERRY®." A long tag, originally inside the carrier when sold, reads, "GERRY TRAIL TECH/TRAIL TECH HP." Writing imprinted on the plastic frame reads, "GERRY." The carrier has a removable, washable seat; a storage pouch; a loading stand; and a padded hip belt. Department and baby products stores nationwide sold these backpack carriers from January 1996 through July 2000 for about $65. Consumers should stop using these backpack carriers immediately. Evenflo, which is now the responding company for this recall, no longer has any service parts for this product nor the capability of producing these parts. The doll bib in the set has snaps that detach, presenting a choking hazard to young children. CPSC and Dollar Tree Stores Inc. are not aware of any injuries involving these bibs. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injuries. The recalled doll feeding set consists of a bib with pink and blue baby cupids, a plastic baby food jar with pink top and a label reading "Love My Baby Baby Food", baby bottle, two-handle pink cup, and a small blue container. Writing on the packaging reads "Love My Baby Doll Care Feeding Set." On the back right-hand corner of the package is SKU number 563239. The set was sold in a box labeled for children ages 4 years and over. Dollar Tree Stores nationwide sold the doll feeding sets during December 1999 for about $1.00. Consumers should take this recalled toy away from young children immediately and return it to any Dollar Tree Store for a refund. The toy phones have a ball-shaped antenna which can detach, presenting a choking hazard to young children. CPSC and Vtech Industries have received nine reports of the plastic ball detaching from these phones. One child reportedly started to choke on one of these plastic balls. The toy is called Little Smart Soft Songs Baby Phone. The cordless baby phone has a mirror, four colorful talking musical buttons, a ringing light-up phone button and a red on/off button. The phone is yellow with a blue padded border and a yellow ball-shaped antenna. A label on these toys reads "Soft Songs Baby Phone 39100." Writing on the phone includes "VTECH" and "Little Smart Soft Songs Baby Phone." Wal-mart stores nationwide sold the toy phones from January 2000 through May 2000 for about $10. These walkers can collapse unexpectedly during use and injure infants. Graco has received 27 reports of these walkers collapsing. Injuries to infants have included a cut toe, a bump on the head, a sprained foot, and scrapes and bruises to legs and feet. The recalled Tot Wheels® Entertainer® Activity Center infant walkers, with "bouncing action" and five-position height adjustment, have model numbers 4032LN or 4032BLA, located underneath the front of the walker's tray. The walker has a removable, green play tray with 12 activities, including a steering wheel, ball spinner and flashing lights. The multicolor walker has an animal-print fabric seat. "Graco Lights & Sounds" is written on a label on the walker tray. "Tot Wheels® Entertainer® Activity Center with Bounce" is written on a label on the walker's base. Mass merchandise, juvenile products and major discount department stores nationwide, including Wal-Mart and Toys R Us, sold the walkers from September 1999 through February 2000 for about $50. The removable toy bar that attaches to the seat can suddenly release and cause injuries to babies. Kids II has received 122 reports of toy bars suddenly releasing from bouncer seats, resulting in 31 injuries to babies, including a black eye, a scraped eye, and facial cuts. Only Kids II bouncer seats with semi-circular toy bars are recalled. These bouncer seats were sold under the names "Soft Toy Bouncer Seat" or "Comfort Me Bouncer." The Kids II logo is embroidered on each seat's crotch strap. The bouncer seats have a ruffled seat pad in three patterns: a black, white and red cow print; a teddy bear, rocking horse and toy box print; and a nursery rhyme print. Each pattern has certain model and lot numbers, which are found on a tag attached to the seat. The Comfort Me Bouncers feature vibration and soothing sounds, including music, waves and heartbeat. Each semi-circular toy bar has three toys. Some of the recalled seats came with white toy bar tethers. Mass merchandise and juvenile specialty stores nationwide sold the seats from October 1997 through April 2000 for about $25 to $35. Consumers should remove the semi-circular toy bars immediately and contact Kids II for an in-home repair kit. Consumers can continue to use the bouncer seat for the baby to sit in as long as the toy bar is removed. Style numbers are located on the back of the neck tag or inside seam. Call the company to see if your garment is part of the recall. The garments were sold as one-piece and two-piece infant garments with long sleeves and full crotch snaps for boys and girls. The male portion of the snap can be identified by the name "SNAPET" stamped inside. The garments were sold in various colors and prints including pastels, stripes and plaids. Riggins, (610) 286-5951 Note: phone number change CPSC, Graco Announce Recall of Infant Swings WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Graco Children's Products Inc., of Elverson, Pa., is providing new safety restraints for about 7 million infant swings made before November 1997. These new restraints will upgrade older swings. The restraint systems on the older swings consist of a waist belt only and a hinged or removable tray, which serves as a restraint. If parts are missing, the restraints are not used, or the tray pops off, infants can slip down into the seat and strangle or fall from the swing. There have been six deaths. These occurred when parts were missing or the restraints were not used and infants slid down the swings' seats and became tangled in the restraints. In five instances, the swings were second hand. Of 209 incidents, 181 were reports of infants falling from the swing. In nine of the falls, infants suffered serious injuries including bone fractures and concussions. Twenty-two infants were caught at the neck or chest. Graco is offering a free, new safety restraint to replace the swings' old restraint systems. The safety restraint kit comes with instructions and can be installed easily. The new safety system has a buckle that assures the crotch strap is used each time the waist belt is buckled, so that infants are securely fastened into the swings. If consumers have a Graco infant swing, they should call Graco to determine if their swing needs a new safety restraint. The swings are battery-powered or wind-up, and are either the traditional A-frame or open top design. Some models have removable seats, which can be used as an infant carrier. Graco will help consumers identify swings that need new safety restraints. Mass merchandise, juvenile products and major discount stores nationwide sold the Graco swings through approximately January 1998 for between $70 to about $120. The rattles violate the Federal Hazardous Substances Act for the design and construction of baby rattles. CPSC and Russ Berrie are not aware of any incidents or injuries involving these rattles. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injuries. The Precious KeepsakesTM silver-plated "New Baby" rattle is 6 inches long and consists of a spinning ball on top of an ornate handle, which includes a small bear and a bow. The rattle was sold as item number 10399. The item number appears on the product packaging. A silver tag attached to the rattle with a ribbon reads "NEW BABY." Specialty and drug stores, and flower and gift shops nationwide sold these rattles from November 1998 through December 1999 for about $14. The stroller's brake can fail, causing the stroller to unexpectedly roll away resulting in injury to a child. InSTEP LLC has received five reports of brakes failing. No injuries have been reported. The recall involves InSTEP and HEALTHRIDER brand single and double jogging strollers manufactured from December 1998 through July 1999 with the model numbers: ZS100, ZD200, ZS100WS, ZD200WS, ZS100HR, ZD200HR, PR100 or PR200. The manufacturing date, written as T "month" R "year" I, is located on a sticker on the lower cross tube (for example T01R99I is January 1999). "InSTEP" and the model number also are on the sticker. InSTEP model numbers ZS100, ZD200, ZS100WS, ZD200WS, PR100 and PR200 have a blue and green seat, and green canopy. "ZII" is on the top and "InSTEP" is on the front of the stroller. Despite the claims, CPSC is not aware of any evidence that proves that babies can safely be placed to sleep on their stomachs on these products, or that using the products will reduce the risk of SIDS. Parents and caregivers should never put babies to sleep on their stomachs, whether on these products or any others. CPSC, Advance Thermo Control Announce Recall of Baby Wipe Warmers WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Advance Thermo Control (ATC), of Hong Kong, is voluntarily recalling 152,000 baby wipe warmers distributed by Prince Lionheart Inc., of Santa Maria, Calif. A wipe warmer is an electric appliance that warms baby wipes. Cracks in the interior tub of these wipe warmers can allow water to contact the electrical components. This can result in consumers receiving an electric shock. Prince Lionheart has received four reports of electric shocks when consumers touched the wipes in the warmers with cracked tubs. This recall involves Prince Lionheart Baby Wipe Warmers with style number 0224 and date codes between 9803 and 9901 with cracked tubs. The style number and date code are written on the bottom of the units. The wipe warmers are white plastic boxes that are 9 inches long, 6 inches wide and 4.75 inches high. "PRINCE LIONHEART" is written on the lid of the warmers. A orange light is located on the front of the warmers to indicate when it is on. "Santa Maria, CA USA" and "MADE IN CHINA" are written on the bottom of the units. Toy, department and baby specialty stores, including Toys "R" Us and Burlington Coat Factory, and mail order catalogs, sold these wipe warmers nationwide from February 1998 through December 1999 for about $25. Consumers should immediately unplug the warmers, remove the wipes, and check to see if the interior tub is cracked. If so, stop using the warmer immediately, and call ATC for information on receiving a free replacement unit. If the tub of the wipe warmer is not cracked, the unit is not part of the recall, and consumers can continue to use the appliance. They were sold in infant sizes 6 months through 24 months and toddler sizes 2T through 4T. "Baby N" is on each collar label. The jackets were made from 100 percent cotton. The rose-shaped buttons on these garments can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children. CPSC and Shopko Stores have received one report of a button found in a child's mouth. No injuries were reported. These are one-piece coveralls, and two-piece, babydoll-style top and legging sets. These 100 percent cotton garments were sold in sizes 0-3M to 24M. Writing on the collar labels includes, "MADE IN CHINA" and "Peek-A-Babe." The tops of the coveralls are made of plush, peach-colored knit fabric, with cream-colored collars and sleeve edges. The coverall tops have three cream-colored, rose-shaped buttons attached to the center front, from the neck to the waist, and are embroidered with a cream-colored rose. The bottoms of the coveralls have eight snaps at the crotch, and are printed with peach- and purple-colored roses, and peach-colored dots, on a cream-colored knit fabric. The babydoll tops are made of plush, cream-colored knit fabric, with peach-colored collars and sleeve edges. The tops have three peach- colored, rose-shaped buttons attached to the center front, from the neck to the waist, and are decorated with six peach-colored rosettes along the front waist. Leggings sold with these tops have purple, lavender and peach stripes on a cream-colored knit fabric.
