Inc. Announce Recall to Repair Child Carriers WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Evenflo Co. Inc., of Piqua, Ohio, is recalling about 22,000 Hike 'N Roll child carriers for repair. Small children can slip sideways into the leg openings, creating a potential strangulation risk. Evenflo has received 16 reports of children slipping into the leg openings, with some reports of red marks on the child's neck. No serious injuries have been reported. Evenflo is offering a free seat insert to reduce the size of the leg openings and provide a more secure fit. The Hike 'N Roll carriers being recalled are model numbers 522101 and 522102. They were manufactured between June 1, 1996, and October 31, 1997. Both the model number and the manufacturing date are found on a white tag attached to the bottom of the carrier. These carriers are green and blue or blue and beige. They can be used both as a backpack carrier and as a stroller. "Evenflo" is printed on the front and back of the carrier. Juvenile product stores nationwide sold these carriers from June 1996 through June 1998 for about $65. Consumers should stop using the carriers immediately and call Evenflo at (800) 649-0071 anytime to receive the free seat insert. Consumers can also view a video clip about this recall (Transcript).
