DECEMBER 13, 1993 Release # 94-016 PRODUCT: About 23,750 non-refillable "Good Time Troll" cigarette lighters distributed by New York Lighter Company. The lighters sold at convenience stores nationwide from January through July 1993. They are printed with one of four troll designs: "Party Troll" is holding a drink in each hand, "Rockin' Troll" is playing a guitar, "King Troll" is smoking a cigar, and "Lucky Troll" is holding a four-leaf clover. The flue of the lighter is labeled "THAILAND" and "C-LITE." PROBLEM: The "Good Time Troll" lighters, printed with troll characters, are very attractive to children and may invite play. If a child plays with the lighter, a fire and/or serious burn injuries may result. WHAT TO DO: Put the lighters out of reach of children. Then, call 1-800-626-4732 to receive special prepaid packaging and complete instructions for returning the lighters. When the lighter is received, a free gift will be sent to the consumer. WASHINGTON, DC -- CPSC, New York Lighter Company, Inc., Brooklyn, NY, is voluntarily recalling "Good Time Troll" cigarette lighters. The lighters, printed with troll characters are very attractive to children and may invite play. If a child plays with the lighter, a fire and/or serious burn injuries may result. There are four designs of "Good Time Troll" lighters, each printed with a different troll and the words "Party Troll," "Rockin' Troll," "King Troll," or "Lucky Troll," "Party Troll" is carrying a drink in each hand, "Rockin' Troll" is playing a guitar, "King Troll" is smoking a cigar, and "Lucky Troll" is holding a four-leaf clover. The flue of the lighter is imprinted with the words "THAILAND" and "C-LITE." The imported "Good Time Troll" cigarette lighters sold for about $3.00 in convenience stores nationwide from January through July 1993. Approximately 23,750 products were sold to consumers. CPSC discovered the lighters advertised in a catalog provided by the New York Lighter Company. Consumers should first be sure the lighters are in a secure place -- out of reach of children. Then, call 1-800-626-4732 to receive special prepaid packaging and complete instructions for returning the lighters. When the lighter is returned to the New York Lighter Company, a free gift will be sent to the consumer. CPSC is announcing this recall as a part of its mission to protect the public from unreasonable risks of injury and death associated with consumer products. The Commission's objective is to reduce the estimated 28.6 million injuries and 21,700 deaths associated each year with the 15,000 different types of consumer products under CPSC's jurisdiction
