Announce Recall of Juice Extractors WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Aroma Housewares Co., of San Diego, Calif., is recalling about 40,000 juice extractors. The juice extractor's filter and lid can break apart and project metal and plastic into the air, causing injuries to consumers. Aroma Housewares has received 26 reports of the juice extractor's filter and lid breaking apart, resulting in 18 consumers suffering injuries. Three of these injuries required stitches. The juice extractors involved in this recall are model ACJ-250 with date codes February 1998 and before. The date code is a four-digit number on the bottom of the unit. The first two numbers represent the month and the last two numbers represent the year. If there is no date code, the juice extractor is included in the recall. The juice extractor is made of white and clear plastic and has a metal filter. "Aroma" is print on the front of the unit. Discount specialty and department stores, including Rite Aid and Payless Cashways, sold these juice extractors from March 1996 through February 1998 for about $25. Consumers should stop using the recalled juice extractors immediately. The company is providing free replacement filters and lids. Consumers should call Aroma Housewares at (800) 276-6286 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. PDT Monday through Friday.
