CVS Sleep Caplets Recalled by PL NEWS from CPSC U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Ken Giles July 25, 1996 (301) 504-7052 Release # 96-171 CPSC and PL Development Announce Recall of CVS Sleep Caplets WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), PL Development Inc. of Farmingdale, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling 3,798 bottles of CVS Sleep Caplets containing diphenhydramine. The bottles lack the child-resistant packaging required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. Diphenhydramine is toxic if accidentally ingested by children and can cause them serious injury or be fatal. CPSC, PL Development, and CVS are not aware of any injuries involving this product. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury. The recalled product is labeled, "CVS sleep caplets nighttime sleep aid 60 CAPLETS... Active Ingredient: Each caplet contains 25 mg. Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride." The outer box and bottles bear lot numbers D423 or D424. CVS sold 3,798 bottles of these sleeping caplets from February 26, 1996, to March 19,1996, for approximately $3.89 a bottle. CVS removed the bottles without child-resistant caps from its shelves and currently sells the product with appropriate child-resistant closures. These closures are labeled, "SAVE A CHILD, CLOSE TIGHTLY. TO OPEN PUSH DOWN & TURN," and are not under recall. Consumers should stop using the recalled sleep caplets immediately and return the bottle to the store where purchased for an exchange or full refund. PL Development, Inc. voluntarily reported this occurrence to CPSC.
Children's Chair Recall/Repair by Now Products NEWS from CPSC U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Nikki White July 25, 1996 (301) 504-7063 Release # 96-172 CPSC, Now Products Announce Recall To Repair Children's Chair WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Now Products of Cicero, Ill., is announcing a recall to home repair approximately 20,000 foam chairs for children. Children can unzip the chair's fabric cover, exposing a thin, clear plastic liner, which could cause choking. Now Products is aware of two incidents of children who removed the plastic from the furniture and placed the plastic in their mouth. One child required medical treatment. The foam chairs measure 11 inches high, 11 inches wide, and 15.5 inches deep. The chair's fabric cover features pictures of animals and children's drawings. A white label which reads in part, "NOW PRODUCTS INC." and a zipper are located on the bottom of the chair. Ames Department stores sold the chairs with matching ottomans and sofas nationwide from January 1994 through June 1996 for approximately $50. Consumers should take the chairs away from children until the chairs have been repaired. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Originally issued July 19, 1996; Revised July 9, 2001 (301) 504-7908 Release # 96-169 CPSC and Kids II Announce Recall of SnackTime Stroller Toy Bar WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Kids II of Alpharetta, Ga., is voluntarily recalling about 99,000 SnackTime Stroller Toy Bars, model number 669. A rattle attached to the bar can break open, releasing small beads. Children could inhale the beads into their lungs, causing serious injury. Kids II and CPSC are aware of one incident in which a child swallowed a piece of the toy, but was not injured. Kids II reported the hazard to CPSC. The toy, which fits over the front bar of a stroller, measures approximately 14 inches long and three inches wide. The bar is decorated with four plastic figures: a flower, a caterpillar, a bear, and a frog. Caregivers can place food and bottles in two of the four figures on the bar: a green and pink cup holder that resembles a flower, and a green frog's head that opens into a removable, spill-resistant bowl. Two other figures on the bar function as games for children: a purple and pink caterpillar with large plastic rings attached by white strings, which functions as a stacking teether; and a yellow bear holding a rattle and jingle balloons. The bear also plays music when consumers press a heart-shaped button on the bear's stomach. The stroller toy bar was packaged in a cardboard box with a see-through window labeled in part, "SnackTime Stroller Toy Bar, Model Number 669 ... Combines Snacktime and Playtime for babies on the go! ... Easily attaches to stroller crossbars ... KIDS II ... For Ages Up To 3 Years ... " Various retail stores and discount centers sold the stroller toy bars nationwide from July 1995 to June 1996 for about $13 to $15. SnackTime Stroller Toy Bars available at stores after August 1, 1996, with model number 683 and containing a date code, are not subject to this recall. Consumers should stop using the toy bar immediately and return it to Kids II at 1015 Windward Ridge Parkway, Alpharetta, GA 30202. Kids II will send consumers a replacement stroller toy bar. Carbon Fiber Mountain Bike Fork Recalled by Girvin NEWS from CPSC U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Media Relations July 18, 1996 (301) 504-7908 Release # 96-168 CPSC and Girvin Incorporated Announce Carbon Fiber Mountain Bike Fork Recall WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Girvin Incorporated of Woonsocket, R.I., is voluntarily recalling 120 Thermoplastic Carbon Fiber Girvin CL Suspension Forks with legs manufactured by Applied Fiber Systems (AFS). The mountain bike forks may crack or separate, causing a rider to lose control of the bicycle and fall. Girvin Incorporated has received four reports of forks breaking. CPSC is not aware of any injuries associated with the forks. The lightweight, black forks have white "Girvin" decals on each leg and yellow drop-outs. The recalled forks have serial numbers between 039297 and 040478 stamped on the bottom of the top fork link, the metal piece connecting the legs at the top of the fork. Authorized Girvin dealers sold the Girvin CL forks nationwide from March 1996 through June 1996 as after-market equipment for $599. Consumers who own bicycles with the defective Girvin CL Suspension Forks should stop using the bicycles immediately and call Girvin Incorporated Technical Services at (800) 447-3824, extension 316. Girvin Incorporated will give consumers a free set of aluminum legs until replacement carbon fiber legs are available.
Go-Kart Axles Repair by Manco Products NEWS from CPSC U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Media Relations July 16, 1996 (301) 504-7908 Release # 96-167 CPSC, Manco Products Announce Recall to Repair Go-Kart Axles WASHINGTON, D.C.- In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Manco Products Inc., of Fort Wayne, Ind., is recalling for repair approximately 300,000 go-karts with exposed rear axles. Riders can be seriously injured or killed if their long, loose hair or clothing becomes entangled on the rotating axle. One child died and two others were seriously injured when their hair or clothing became entangled on the rotating rear axles of Manco go-karts. The children ranged in age from eight to 11 years old. The one- and two-seat go-karts are powered by gasoline engines. Some models have brush bars to protect riders from low tree branches and other foliage. Each go-kart has a black serial number on a white label located on the floor pan immediately in front of the driver's seat. All Manco go-karts with an exposed "live" rear axle are involved in this recall. To determine whether their go-kart is involved in this recall, consumers should stand behind the kart, with the engine off, and push the go-kart by hand. If the axle connecting the two rear wheels rotates, the go-kart is subject to this recall. Outdoor power equipment stores, specialty stores, department stores, and hardware stores sold Manco labeled go-karts nationwide from January 1972 through June 1996 for about $600 to $2,000. Sears, Roebuck & Co. sold the go-karts under the Sears name from 1977 to 1983. Western Auto has sold the go-karts under the "Phoenix" label since 1987. Manco has sold the karts under the "Fox" label since 1990. Consumers should stop using the recalled go-karts immediately and contact Manco at (800) 293-0795. Consumers should provide the model number and serial number of the kart when calling. Manco will send consumers a free axle guard kit with instructions for easy installation. Consumers can also contact the Manco dealer from which their go-kart was purchased for free installation of the axle guard kit.

Announce Recall of Silk Scarves WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), India Arts Inc. of San Francisco, Calif., is voluntarily recalling 5,421 dangerously flammable sheer silk scarves. The sale of the scarves violates the federal Flammable Fabrics Act because the scarves present a serious risk of burn injuries. In fact, these scarves typically burn faster than newspaper. India Arts and CPSC are not aware of any injuries associated with these scarves. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury. The scarves, which measure 29 inches by 29 inches, were available in six colors. This recall affects purple, turquoise, and black scarves. The scarves bear a label that reads, "INDIA ARTS" and another label that reads in part, "100% Silk ... DRY CLEAN ONLY ... MADE IN INDIA ... R.N. 28049." Retail boutiques and gift shops sold the scarves nationwide between January 1989 and May 1996 for between $8 and $9. CPSC urges consumers to stop wearing the recalled scarves immediately and return the scarves to the retailers where they were purchased. Retailers taking part in this recall will provide a refund, credit or information on returning the scarf for a replacement. Scarfs Recalled by Zazou Scarfs NEWS from CPSC U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Nychelle White July 10, 1996 (301) 504-7063 Release # 96-164 CPSC and Zazou Scarves Announce Scarf Recall WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Zazou Scarves of Berkeley, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 7,640 dangerously flammable sheer rayon scarves. The sale of the scarves violates the federal Flammable Fabrics Act because the scarves present a serious risk of burn injuries. In fact, these scarves typically burn faster than newspaper. Zazou Scarves and CPSC are not aware of any injuries associated with these scarves. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury. The scarves, measuring 34 inches by 72 inches, have labels that read in part, "ZAZOU... 100% RAYON ... DRY CLEAN ONLY ... MADE IN INDIA." The 100 percent rayon scarves were available in a variety of colors, designs, and patterns, including scarves depicting water flowers. Retail boutiques and gift shops sold the scarves nationwide from November 1995 through April 1996 for $12 to $30. CPSC urges consumers to immediately stop wearing the scarves that may be involved in this recall. These flammable sheer 100 percent rayon scarves should be returned to the retailers where they were purchased. Retailers taking part in this recall will provide a full refund upon return of the recalled scarves. Some scarves that meet these descriptions do not violate the federal Flammable Fabrics Act. Consumers should call Zazou to determine if their scarf is involved in this recall. CPSC discovered this hazard during a joint CPSC/U.S. Customs import surveillance program. Zazou Scarves is changing fabrics for future scarf shipments to ensure that flammability requirements are met.
Posi Track Suspension Forks Recalled by Pacific Cycle NEWS from CPSC U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Media Relations July 9, 1996 (301) 504-7908 Release # 96-161 CPSC, Pacific Cycle USA Announce Recall of "Posi Track" Suspension Forks WASHINGTON, DC - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Diversified Investments Corporation, doing business as Pacific Cycle USA of McFarland, Wis., is voluntarily recalling approximately 10,000 "Posi Track" mountain bike suspension forks. The forks may crack or separate, causing a rider to lose control of the bicycle and fall. Pacific Cycle USA has received 150 reports of these forks cracking or separating. Eight of these incidents resulted in injuries, including facial and dental injuries, a concussion, a fractured nose, a fractured jaw, cuts, and bruises. The metal forks have a black "Posi Track" decal on each fork blade (stanchion tube), which is secured to an alloy crown by two fouR-millimeter allen head bolts. Toys "R" Us and Target stores sold the forks nationwide from May 1994 through August 1995 as original equipment on 1994 and 1995 26-inch Pacific Conquest, Cyclone, and Conqueror bicycles. Consumers who own bicycles with the defective suspension forks should stop using the bicycles immediately and call Pacific's service department at (800) 283-3303 for a free replacement fork. "Posi Track" suspension forks with stanchions welded to the crown are not involved in this recall. In addition, "Posi Track" forks with colored decals are not involved in this recall.

Announce Recall of Minnie Mouse Nautical Outfits WASHINGTON, D.C. -In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Catton Brothers of New York is recalling about 29,400 infant and toddler girl's Minnie Mouse nautical outfits. A small cloth loop on a bow around the neckline can slide off, presenting a choking hazard to infants. Catton Brothers is aware of one incident in which the cloth loop detached from the garment. CPSC and Catton Brothers are not aware of any injuries involving the nautical outfits. The outfits were available in four styles. The knit dress with leggings (style 16500), infant dress (style 18500), and toddler dress (style 19500) each have embroidered appliques of Minnie Mouse on the front. The short set (style 17214H) features a beach scene with Minnie Mouse on the front. All the outfits have long sailor ties at the neckline, which are held together with small, beige fabric loops that read "Minnie Mouse" in red lettering. The dresses and dress with leggings each have a sewn-in label which reads in part, "MICKEY'S STUFF for kids ... Catton Brothers...70% Cotton/30% Polyester...Made in Thailand...." The short set has a label that reads in part, "Catton Brothers...60% Cotton/40% Polyester...Made in Hong Kong...." Independent retailers sold the garments nationwide from November 1995 through April 1996 for between $10 and $14. Consumers should stop using the recalled garments immediately and return them to the store where purchased for a full refund. Announce Terra Cotta Candle Set Recall WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), IMSA International Inc. of El Paso, Texas, is voluntarily recalling about 50,000 three-piece terra cotta potted candle sets. The clay pots may overheat and catch fire. IMSA International received three reports of the clay pots catching fire. One consumer burned her face attempting to blow out the fire. In another case, the pots flamed up causing fire and smoke damage to wallpaper and tile. The two-ounce candles, measuring two inches high, are potted in terra cotta clay flower pots or vases and shrink wrapped in a small terra cotta tray. Dollar Tree stores in the South, East, and Midwest sold sets of three terra cotta candles for $1 from April 1 through April 24, 1996. Shave Gel Recalled by Pfizer NEWS from CPSC U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: July 2, 1996 (301) 504-7908 Release # 96-157 CPSC and Pfizer Announce Shave Gel Recall WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the Consumer Health Care Group of Pfizer Inc. is announcing a voluntary recall of cans of PureSilk Shave Gel for women sold between October 1995 and June 1996. The inner liner of the can may corrode, and as a result the can may rupture, which could propel a plastic component or the gel from the can. Consumers could be injured by sharp edges of the ruptured can or by the plastic component. Pfizer is aware of 10 incidents of the cans rupturing. No injuries have been reported. Drug, grocery, and cosmetic stores sold more than 500,000 purple, seven-ounce cans of the shaving gel nationwide for between $2 and $2.50 a can. This recall does not affect the cream product for women sold under the name PureSilk Shave Cream. Consumers should stop using the shave gel immediately and discharge the shaving gel to reduce pressure within the can. Consumers should record the product's lot number, which is printed on the bottom of the container, then discard the shave gel can. Announce Recall of Exercise Machines WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Stamina Products Inc. of Springfield, Mo., is announcing a voluntary recall to refund or replace approximately 21,500 exercising machines (model PR-6050). The machine's welds may develop cracks or breaks. Consumers could be injured if the welds break and the seat drops unexpectedly. Stamina has received notice of 43 reports of the welds allegedly cracking or separating, resulting in injuries such as sprains and bruises. The black metal exercise machine resembles a bicycle without wheels. "Stamina" is printed in red on the back, lower frame of the machine. To operate the machine, consumers pull the handlebars, which rocks the seat forward. The machine adjusts under the seat to increase resistance and provide a more intense workout. QVC Network, Damark International Inc., Wal-Mart Stores Inc., and Value Vision sold the PR-6050 from November 1995 through February 1996 for about $99. Consumers who own PR-6050s should immediately contact Stamina to arrange for a refund or free replacement. In order to receive a refund or free replacement, consumers must return the PR-6050 to Stamina at Stamina's cost. If dirt, sand, or other debris becomes lodged in the grill's regulator valve, the regulator may appear to be shut off when it's not. Gas may continue to flow through the regulator, building up over time. If consumers try to relight the grill after LP gas has built up, the grill could burst into flames or explode. Char-Broil and CPSC are not aware of any injuries involving these grills. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury. The black steel tabletop grills measure approximately 11 inches wide, 18 inches long, and nine inches deep (when closed). The grills are packaged with a silver metal grill shelf and two V-shaped metal stands in a brown cardboard box labeled in part, "Char-Broil ...Portable Tabletop LP Gas Grill ...Model 1200." Hardware and home supply stores, including Ace Hardware, Best Buy, and Home Depot, sold the grills nationwide from January 1992 to March 1996 for about $30. Consumers who own these grills should call Char-Broil at (800) 241-7548. Char-Broil will send consumers a new, free replacement regulator with an internal filter which will help prevent debris from interfering with the regulator.

CPSC and Irwin Sports Announce Recall of Baseball Catchers' Helmet Faceguard WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Irwin Sports of Toronto, Ontario, announced the recall of about 8,400 faceguards for model CL87 baseball catchers' combination faceguard and helmet. Adjusting the wire faceguard too low on the helmet could allow a ball to pass through the faceguard, which could lead to serious injuries to the face or head. Irwin Sports has received two reports of facial injuries when the faceguard was misadjusted on the helmet. The recalled faceguard is attached to either a red, navy, royal or black helmet with "Cooper - Made in Canada - CL87" printed on both sides of the helmet. The back of the helmet also has a white warning label next to the words "Little League Approved - CL87." Sporting goods stores sold the CL87 combination helmet/faceguards nationwide from October 1995 through May 1996 for about $ 35.00 each. Consumers should stop using the CL87 Combination helmet/faceguard immediately. The firm is out of business and a remedy is no longer available. This product should be destroyed or discarded.

CPSC, Hedstrom Issue Safety Warning for My Pet Bear Ride-On Toy WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Hedstrom Corporation of Bedford, Pa., warned owners of approximately 9,400 Hedstrom My Pet Bear ride-on toys to remove the foam covering from the two horizontal, metal support tubes in order to eliminate any risk of children choking on the foam. Hedstrom has received four reports of children biting off pieces of the protective foam. No injuries have been reported. My Pet Bear, model number 2-551, is a bouncing/rocking toy recommended for children ages nine months to 36 months. The ride, measuring 21 inches high, 36 inches long, and 22 inches wide, resembles a bear with a seat attached to its back. Four heavy springs attach the bear to a metal frame with two horizontal bars covered with light tan foam padding. Retail stores sold the My Pet Bear ride-on toy nationwide from January 1995 through May 1996 for about $45. The firm is out of business and can no longer be contacted.

The rubber hoses are originally intended for use with air tools. The recalled hoses have been modified and sold for use with propane gas seafood cookers. These hoses could leak gas, creating a fire hazard. The red rubber hoses' inside diameter measures .25 inch. White labeling on the hose reads in part, "ID SERVICE AIR UPC 07869842221311." Brass fittings on the ends of the hose are stamped "7327." The hoses were available in two lengths: six feet (part number 306H) and 12 feet (part number 302H). Small hardware stores in southeast Louisiana and coastal Mississippi sold individual hoses separately from other seafood cooker parts from June 1991 through October 1995. The six-foot hose sold for about $10, and the 12-foot hose sold for about $15. Consumers who own these hoses should stop using their seafood cookers and contact Ruiz & Mele at (800) 375-0308 to receive a free replacement hose. The company is not aware of any injuries or incidents associated with this product. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury.

Announce Ceramic Potpourri Burner Recall WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission(CPSC), Bath & Body Works Inc. of Columbus, Ohio, is recalling about 18,700 ceramic potpourri burners. The ceramic potpourri burner may contain hairline cracks that can cause the burner to fracture or shatter while in use. As a result, people can be burned by hot wax and potpourri. Bath & Body Works is aware of nine incidents in which the ceramic potpourri burner cracked, exposing consumers to flames, hot potpourri, and hot wax. Two consumers received burns to the hands as they attempted to extinguish the flames. The white ceramic potpourri burner, a cylinder-shaped container measuring 5.5 inches high and 4.25 inches in diameter, is decorated with various floral designs. To heat the burner, consumers place candles in a round hole in the back of the potpourri burner. Bath & Body Works retail stores sold the ceramic potpourri burners nationwide from April 1995 through April 1996 for approximately $10. Consumers should immediately stop using the ceramic potpourri burners and return them to any Bath & Body Works retail store for a refund of the purchase price, plus a $25.00 Bath & Body Works gift certificate. Stuffed Animal Recalled by Gibson Greetings NEWS from CPSC U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: June 11, 1996 (301) 504-7908 Release # 96-145 CPSC and Gibson Greetings Announce Stuffed Animal Recall WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Gibson Greetings Inc. of Cincinnati, Ohio, is voluntarily recalling about 69,700 "Keepsake Kritters" stuffed bears and cats. The stuffed animals' eyes may separate from the toy, presenting a choking hazard to young children. Gibson Greetings and CPSC are not aware of any injuries involving this toy. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury. The stuffed animals measure about eight inches high. The brown "Orson" bear, item 1599QR925-0010, with brown eyes and brown trim, wears a sweater patterned like an American flag. The white "Abby" cat, item 1599QR927-0010, with blue eyes and pink trim, wears a multi-colored, flecked sweater. Beige hang tags attached to the toys' ears read in part, "Gibson Keepsake Kritters ... 1996 Gibson Greetings Inc. ... Made in China." The toys were sold nationwide at a price of approximately $15 each in grocery stores, card shops, and specialty retailers from March 15, 1996 to April 22, 1996. Consumers should take the bears and cats away from young children immediately and return the toys to the store where purchased for a full refund. Announce Software and Hardware Correction Program for Computer Scanners WASHINGTON, D.C.-In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Visioneer, Inc. is announcing a voluntary correction program for approximately 150,000 computer scanners sold under the names PaperPort Vx, Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 4s, and Compaq Scanner Keyboard. If the scanner's power supply is momentarily decreased, the scanner's motor can lock and may overheat. Visioneer, Hewlett-Packard and Compaq have received a total of 38 reports of motor lock-up involving the scanners. CPSC and Visioneer have not received any reports of injuries from customers experiencing an overheat condition. Consumers use scanners to store documents in personal computers to be accessed on-screen. Once the document is on-screen, it can be faxed, filed, edited, or e-mailed. Visioneer's portable, beige plastic scanners measure approximately 3.75 inches high, 12 inches wide, and 2.50 inches deep. The Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 4s measures approximately 4 inches high, 12 inches wide and 2.5 inches deep. The Compaq Scanner Keyboard measures approximately 2.29 inches high, 20.75 inches wide, and 8.89 inches deep. Consumers scan materials such as pictures or charts by feeding the material into a slot on the front of the scanner. The scanned image appears on the computer screen as the material is fed through the scanner. When the image has been completely scanned, the material exits out of the top of the scanner. The scanners were sold nationwide between September 1995 and May 1996 mainly through catalogs, mail order and third party distributors such as computer superstores and computer retailers for suggested retail prices ranging from $299 to $349. Scanners manufactured after March 15, 1996 are not affected by the error condition. Consumers can download a software solution from Visioneer's Worldwide Web site that will significantly reduce the chance of lock-up. Consumers can also obtain and install a free retrofit kit from Visioneer, Hewlett-Packard or Compaq which includes a new circuit to prevent motor lock-up. Announce Furniture Recall WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Thayer Coggin Inc. of High Point, N.C., is recalling approximately 1,100 chairs, recliners, couches, and settees. The furniture may break and injure consumers if it collapses. Thayer Coggin has received one report of its Sency model chair breaking and one report of its Premier model recliner breaking. The company also is aware of three reports of people who received cuts requiring stitches from the sharp edges underneath its Kingsley model recliner. Thayer Coggin and commercial furniture dealers sold the chairs, recliners, couches, and settees primarily for institutional use in hospital and medical waiting rooms and reception areas. Offices and institutions should remove the furniture and call Thayer Coggin to arrange for a free repair or, if necessary, replacement.
