These stands allow regular bicycles to be used as stationary bicycles. The flywheels, which are red or blue can fracture in use. Metal pieces of broken flywheels can hit riders or bystanders, causing cuts and bruises. Minoura has received three reports of injuries from pieces of broken flywheels, resulting in lacerations on riders' legs. This recall only involves Minoura, Schwinn, Performance or Univega brand stands with painted red or blue exposed flywheels. The brand names are written on the stand and the flywheels are about 5 inches in diameter. The company will help consumers determine if their stand is part of this recall. Bicycle stores and catalogs, including Performance, sold the stands nationwide from January 1989 through December 1994 for between $120 and $180. Consumers should stop using these stands immediately, and call Minoura to receive a free repair kit. Announce Recall of All-Terrain Vehicles WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Polaris Industries Inc., of Minneapolis, Minn., is voluntarily recalling about 13,600 All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). The throttles on these ATVs can stick, preventing the ATV from slowing down when released. This can cause the vehicle to lose control and crash, resulting in severe injury or death. Polaris has received 26 reports of problems with the throttles on these ATVs. There have been 17 reports of crashes resulting in six consumers suffering injuries. The recall includes some model year 1999 Scrambler, Sport, and Xplorer 400 ATVs, and some model year 2000 Scrambler and Xplorer 400 ATVs. "Polaris" and the model name are written on both sides of the ATVs. Polaris dealers will help consumers determine if their ATV is part of this recall. Polaris ATV dealers nationwide sold these ATVs from December 1998 through July 2000 for between $4,800 and $5,900. Consumers should stop using these ATVs immediately. Registered owners of the recalled Polaris ATVs were notified by mail about the recall, and also will be contacted by their dealer to schedule a free ATV repair. Consumers should contact their local ATV dealer to get more information about the recall. CPSC, Safety 1st Announce Recall to Repair Baby Walkers WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Safety 1st Inc., of Canton, Mass., is voluntarily recalling to repair about 170,000 Mobile "4 Wheelin" Walkers, which are shaped like cars. Babies can lose their lower teeth when the teeth are caught in parts of the three-spoke steering wheels. Also, on some of these walkers, the telephone could break apart, releasing small parts and posing a choking hazard. Safety 1st has received eight reports of babies catching their teeth in parts of the three-spoke steering wheels. Six babies lost lower front teeth. There also are 44 reports of the telephone button loosening. One 6-month-old baby girl gagged on a telephone button from a phone that came apart. The Mobile "4 Wheelin" Walker is intended for babies 6 months old until the age they begin to walk. The walker has a green body, and includes a three-spoke steering wheel with squeaking horn, clicking keys, two rearview mirrors and a phone with electronic ring. Model number 45701, 45701A or 45701B is written underneath the walker tray. Only walkers with these model numbers are part of the recall. Other writing under the body includes, "Made in the U.S.A.,(1997," and "Safety 1st, Inc." Mass merchandise, juvenile products and major discount department stores nationwide sold the walkers from April 1998 through April 1999 for about $50. The mask's glass lens can break into sharp pieces, causing lacerations to a child's face, eyes or hands. Kmart has received one report of the glass lens shattering. No injuries have been reported. The "Splash Club" Aquatic Child's Swim Mask is made of either purple, aqua or lime-green plastic. It has a clear glass lens and an adjustable head strap. "Tempered Splash Club Glass" is written on the mask. The mask is packaged in clear plastic with a cardboard insert labeled "Splash Club Aquatic Child's Swim Mask." The following UPC code is on the package: 072000 72970 0. The mask was made in China. Kmart and Super Kmart stores nationwide sold the swim masks from February 2000 to July 2000 for about $3. Consumers should stop using these swim masks immediately and return them to the nearest Kmart or Super Kmart store for a refund. CPSC, Appliance Co. of America LLC Announce Recall of Juice Extractors Sold at Kmart WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Appliance Co. of American LLC, of Great Neck, N.Y., voluntarily recalled about 229,000 Betty Crocker juice extractors. The juice extractor's filter and lid can break apart, and project metal and plastic into the air, causing injuries to nearby consumers. Appliance Co. of America had received 17 reports of the juice extractors' filters and lids breaking apart. Six consumers suffered minor cuts to their hands and arms. The Betty Crocker juice extractor being recalled is model number 1480, which is written underneath the unit as part of a mark that reads "BC-1480 Juice Extractor." The juice extractor is white, and measures 12.5-inches high, 6-inches wide and 8.75-inches long. Kmart stores nationwide sold these juice extractors from September 1992 through June 1995 for about $21. Consumers should stop using these juice extractors immediately, and discard or destory them. The firm is out of business and cannot be contacted, and a remedy is no longer available.

The metal clip and the small rivet that attaches the clip to a small, stuffed animal on the pacifier holder can break apart easily, exposing babies to small parts. This poses a choking and aspiration hazard to babies. Rashti & Rashti received one report of a pacifier clip breaking apart. No injuries have been reported. The recalled Magic Years® Novelty Pacifier Buddy Clips were sold individually, and also as part of a set with a matching bib. The pacifier clip has a small, stuffed animal attached -- including a purple cat, yellow chick, blue dog, pink bunny, green bear and white sheep. The bib sold with the bib set has a large, sewn-on animal patch that matches the design of the pacifier animal.The clips and bib/clip sets are packaged on a yellow cardboard hangtag. "Magic Years®" and "PACIFIER CLIP" are written on the individual clip packaging. "Magic Years®", "Novelty bib and pacifier clip set" and "ALL ITEMS MADE IN CHINA" are written on the bib/clip set packaging. There is no writing on the pacifier clips or bibs. Gift and specialty stores sold the pacifier clips from September 1999 through June 2000. The pacifier clips sold individually for about $3, and the bib/pacifier clip sets sold for about $5. Announce Recall of Gas Grills WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), The Coleman Co. of Witchita, Kan., is voluntarily recalling about 86,000 Coleman Gas grills. A sharp edge on the metal heat shield below the control panel of the grill can cause lacerations to the hands, wrists or arms. Coleman has received six reports from consumers who received cuts or lacerations on their hands, wrists, or arms from the heat shield when they were accessing the propane cylinder underneath the grill. The recalled grills are green and black and have a red Coleman emblem on the grill's cover. The grill has a wheeled cart with two side tables or one side table and a side burner, and features a warming rack above the grilling surface. Only grills with series numbers 2000 or 3000 are included in the recall. The series numbers are on the face plate of the grill, located on the right hand side of the control panel. Home improvement and discount department stores sold the grills nationwide from January through April 2000 for between $350 and $500. Consumers should immediately contact Coleman toll free at (877) 846-1070 anytime to receive a free repair kit or visit the Coleman Grill web site at www.bbqhq.com/aboutus/recall.htm. The repair kit contains a plastic sheath to cover the sharp edge on the heat shield.

Announce Recall of Propane Cylinders WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), AmeriGas Propane L.P., of Valley Forge, Pa., is recalling about 100 propane cylinders sold or exchanged at The Home Depot or Meijer's stores in the Detroit, Mich., area. Of these cylinders, about 10 could be overfilled, which can cause them to release flammable propane gas unexpectedly, posing a risk of fires and explosions. On July 19, 2000, some of the overfilled cylinders vented propane and ignited, causing an explosion at the AmeriGas plant in Willoughby, Ohio. One worker suffered minor burns. No consumer injuries have been reported. After investigating the source of the overfilled cylinders, AmeriGas determined the only AmeriGas office which delivered possibly overfilled cylinders to retail stores was its Trenton, Mich., office. No other AmeriGas location released overfilled cylinders to retailers or customers. Home Depots and Meijer's stores in the Detroit, Mich., area sold or exchanged these propane cylinders on July 17 through July 19. An AmeriGas "Prefilled Propane Xchange" or "PPX"® gas grill cylinder is white, and at the time of purchase, had a shrink-wrapped sleeve around it with the names "AmeriGas" and "PPX" on it. The cylinders sold for between $44 and $48 and cost between $13 and $14 for an exchange. Consumers who purchased or exchanged one of these AmeriGas barbecue propane cylinders should not use their gas grills or other appliances, and should not disconnect or transport the cylinder. Consumers should call the AmeriGas toll-free hotline immediately at (888) 428-9779 anytime for instructions on getting their gas cylinder inspected, and replaced if needed

Backpack Baby Carriers WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Hufco-Delaware Co., of Miamisburg, Ohio, recalled about 111,000 Gerry® TrailTech? backpack baby carriers with plastic frames. Small infants can shift to one side, slip through the leg openings of these carriers and fall. CPSC and Hufco-Delaware have received four reports of infants slipping through the leg openings of these carriers. There were two reports of infants suffering fractured skulls and two reports of infants suffering bumped heads when they fell to the ground. These Gerry® TrailTech? backpack baby carriers have black, plastic contoured frames. They were sold in color combinations of slate blue with teal trim, green with black trim, navy blue and purple with green trim, and blue and purple with silver trim. A tag on the outside of the carrier reads "GERRY®." A long tag, originally inside the carrier when sold, reads, "GERRY TRAIL TECH/TRAIL TECH HP." Writing imprinted on the plastic frame reads, "GERRY." The carrier has a removable, washable seat; a storage pouch; a loading stand; and a padded hip belt. Department and baby products stores nationwide sold these backpack carriers from January 1996 through July 2000 for about $65. Consumers should stop using these backpack carriers immediately. Evenflo, which is now the responding company for this recall, no longer has any service parts for this product nor the capability of producing these parts. Announce Recall to Replace Gun Locks WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Master Lock Co., of Milwaukee, Wis., is voluntarily recalling about 752,000 gun locks and providing free replacements to consumers. Due to a manufacturing discrepancy, the two halves of some gun locks can be manually separated without a key, giving children and others unauthorized access to a firearm. Master Lock reports it has not received any consumer reports of locks being disabled as a result of this discrepancy. This recall is being conducted by Master Lock to prevent the possibility of injury. The locks being recalled are keyed, trigger gun locks sold separately or in combination with certain Smith & Wesson and Walther handguns. The recalled gun locks were available for sale after June 20, 1999, and are either black or blue metal. Each half of the lock surrounds the trigger with a 1-inch locking post connecting them. The words, "Master Lock Tough Under Fire" are imprinted on the lock's black rubber pad. Affixed to the lock is a yellow sticker which reads, "Warning! Do Not Use On A Loaded Gun!" Master Lock brand gun locks sold separately were packaged with a green and black cardboard display card and with instruction sheets inside the package. Smith & Wesson gun locks were sold under its own name, and were packaged with blue display cards and instruction sheets inside the package. Model numbers found on the instruction sheets or packaging are 90, 90DSPT, 90KADSPT, 90TSPT, 90DS&W, 90KADS&W or 90TS&W. The words, "Made to exclusive Master Lock specifications in China" are on the back of the packaging. Stores, such as Walmart, Kmart, Gander Mountain and Sports Authority, sold the gun locks nationwide between June 1999 and July 2000 for between $8 and $12. Consumers should stop using the recalled locks immediately and call Master Lock at (800) 308-9242 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday to receive a free replacement lock. As always, consumers are reminded not to use gun locks on loaded guns. Until the replacement lock is received, consumers should not use the recalled gun locks. Master Lock urges consumers to comply with all state and local laws requiring the use of gun locking devices. The toy is a multi-colored, plush fabric sorter box with six shapes that rattle, crackle or squeak, and have a multi-pattern design including, green with blue polk-a-dots, red and orange checks, and blue and green stripes. A label on the toy reads, "GYMBOREE" and "Made In China." Gymboree and Play & Music Stores, and the Gymboree web site sold the toys nationwide from November 1998 through April 2000 for about $20. PROBLEM: The stuffing of the toys can contain sewing needles and sharp metal pieces. Young children could ingest or be cut by these sharp metal pieces. INCIDENTS/INJURIES: There has been one report of a part of a sewing needle in the stuffing of the plush shape sorter toy. After searching through its inventory, the firm found five additional plush shape sorter toys with sharp metal pieces. No injuries have been reported. WHAT TO DO: Stop using the toys immediately, and return it to the store where purchased for a refund. Young children can choke on the small balls attached to these toys. CPSC has received one report of a 5-month-old girl in El Paso, Texas, choking to death after one of the small balls attached to these toys lodged in her throat. CPSC also received reports of two children starting to choke on a ball from this toy. The Wiggle Waggle Caterpillar TM is a pull toy that plays four songs and various sounds. It has five ball shapes raised from its body on the end of tightly wound coil wire springs. The two smaller ball shapes on the caterpillar's head resemble antennas. The toy is about 10 inches long, and is green with yellow oval wheels that cause it to wobble when it moves. The segments of the caterpillar's body have lights that flash to the music and sounds. "Child Guidance TM" and "MADE IN CHINA" are imprinted on the bottom of the toy. "Ages 12 months & up" is written on the packaging. Toy and discount department stores nationwide sold the caterpillar toys from May 1998 through June 2000 for about $13. Parents and caregivers should take these toys away from young children immediately. Consumers should send the toy back to the firm to receive another toy of similar value. Announce Recall Children's Play Tables to Replace Mallets WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Shelcore Inc., of Somerset, N.J., is voluntarily recalling about 124,000 "Stand-Up 'N Play Tables" to replace the xylophone mallets. The mallet that comes as part of this table set can be lodged into the throats of young children, posing a choking hazard. Shelcore received a report of the mallet being jammed into the throat of a 13-month old boy after he fell while teething on the ball end of the mallet. Lacerations in the throat resulted when an adult had to forcibly remove the mallet to prevent choking. The "Stand-Up 'N Play Table" measures 14 inches long, 14 inches wide and 13 inches high. The multi-colored play table includes a telephone, clicking dial, spinner, push-button squeaker, rolling ball, spinning gears, xylophone and mallet, three colorful shapes, and a shape sorter. The tray of the table is white, and the legs are red with yellow caps at the base. Writing on the box reads, "Ages 9-36 Months," and "Encourages Child to Pull-Up and Stand." Toy stores nationwide sold these play tables from March 1996 through March 1999 for between $18 and $20. Consumers should immediately throw the recalled mallets in the trash, and call Shelcore for a free replacement mallet. Phone Number Change CPSC, Fisher-Price Announce Recall of Baby Jumper Seats and Construction Toys WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Fisher-Price, of East Aurora, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling baby jumper seats and preschool toys. About 882,000 Hop, Skip, Jumpers are being recalled along with about 267,000 Big ActionTM Construction toys. Recall of Hop, Skip, JumpersThe Hop, Skip, Jumper is an activity seat for babies to sit in while suspended from a doorway. There is a spring attached to a suspension strap, allowing babies to use their feet to bounce up and down, while being supported by the seat. The spring that suspends the jumper seat from the doorway can break. Babies can fall to the ground and suffer serious injuries.Fisher-Price has received 80 reports of the springs breaking. Twenty babies have been injured. The injuries include nine lacerations to heads, five of which required stitches or staples, a dislocated tailbone, a black eye and bumps, bruises and scrapes. Only model numbers 9144 and 9146 are being recalled. The model number is molded into the underside of the plastic tray attached to the soft seat. The jumper is red and blue, or all blue, with a bright yellow propeller decoration on the front of the seat. "Fisher-Price" is written on the front of the tray. Fisher-Price will help consumers determine if they have a recalled jumper.The Hop, Skip, Jumpers were sold by mass merchandise, juvenile products and discount stores from January 1987 through January 1994 for about $25.Consumers should stop using the jumpers immediately. Fisher-Price will provide a free repair kit with a new, suspension strap to support the jumper seat if the spring breaks. The repair can be done quickly and easily in the home. Recall of Big ActionTM Construction ToysThe Big Action Construction toy is a large plastic construction set that features a rotating crane that sits on top of a construction site. The crane has a bucket that is attached by a 25-inch strap. The bucket can be raised and lowered by using a turning crank on the crane. Children can wrap the 25-inch strap around their necks, posing a strangulation hazard. Fisher-Price has received 16 reports of children wrapping the strap around their necks. Seven children suffered minor injuries. The recalled Big Action Construction toys are model number 72028. The model number is on the underside of the toy. The toy has a brown base with a yellow and silver crane and a blue drawbridge. "Fisher- Price" is written on the crane. The toy has two construction vehicles and a number of boulders. Only models with a 25-inch strap attached to the crane are being recalled.Toy, mass merchandise and discount stores sold the Big Action Construction toys nationwide from January 1997 through June 2000 for about $60.Consumers should cut the 25-inch strap off of the toy immediately and throw the strap away. Fisher-Price will provide a free replacement crane boom and bucket with a 12-inch strap so that children cannot wrap it around their necks

Announce Recall of Doll Feeding Sets WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Dollar Tree Stores Inc., of Chesapeake, Va., is recalling about 700,000 doll feeding sets. The doll bib in the set has snaps that detach, presenting a choking hazard to young children. CPSC and Dollar Tree Stores Inc. are not aware of any injuries involving these bibs. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injuries. The recalled doll feeding set consists of a bib with pink and blue baby cupids, a plastic baby food jar with pink top and a label reading "Love My Baby Baby Food", baby bottle, two-handle pink cup, and a small blue container. Writing on the packaging reads "Love My Baby Doll Care Feeding Set." On the back right-hand corner of the package is SKU number 563239. The set was sold in a box labeled for children ages 4 years and over. Dollar Tree Stores nationwide sold the doll feeding sets during December 1999 for about $1.00. Consumers should take this recalled toy away from young children immediately and return it to any Dollar Tree Store for a refund. CPSC, Appliance Co. of America Announce Recall of Toaster Ovens WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Appliance Co. of America, of Great Neck, N.Y., recalled about 7,000 Welbilt toaster ovens. The ovens' heating elements can break, causing the glass door to shatter. The toasters could short circuit, causing electrical shocks and fires. Appliance Co. of America has received 14 reports of heating elements breaking. In one incident, the glass door broke, and in another, a countertop was scorched. No injuries have been reported. These Welbilt toaster ovens with rotisserie and griddle have model number TR660 on the back of the oven. The oven is white and black about 17 inches wide and 12 inches high, and has a glass door. Three knobs on the right side of the oven control the temperature; function, such as broil, rotisserie, toast and bake; and length of time. "WELBILT® Toaster Oven With Rotisserie & Griddle" is written on the oven's lower-right front. Club, discount and department stores, and mail order catalogs sold the toaster ovens nationwide from January 2000 through May 2000 for about $100. Consumers should stop using these toaster ovens immediately and discard or destroy them. The firm is out of business and cannot be contacted.

Announce Recall to Replace "Elmo Nitelights" WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), The First Years Inc., of Avon, Mass., is voluntarily recalling about 123,000 "Elmo Nitelights." The faceplate on these nightlights can be broken off, exposing wiring and posing shock and electrocution hazards. CPSC and The First Years have received three reports of the faceplates on these nightlights breaking off resulting in two 1-year-old girls and an adult receiving an electrical shock when touching the exposed wires. The "Elmo Nitelight" shows the Sesame Street character Elmo, who is red, hanging onto a green lamp post set on a blue background. A moon and stars surround the light part of the lamp post, which illuminates when the light is plugged in. It measures 4.25 inches long by 2.75 inches wide and fits over the entire standard outlet coverplate. "Henson" and "the first years" are imprinted on the back of the nightlights. The cardboard packaging shows a picture of the Sesame Street character Big Bird, and includes the writing, "SESAME STREET" and "nitelight." Discount, drug, grocery and toy stores sold these nightlights from July 1997 through March 2000 for between $5 and $6. Consumers should immediately remove the "Elmo Nitelights" from their sockets and throw them away. If wires are exposed, turn off the power before removing. Announce Recall of Bicycle Helmets WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Cycle Express Inc., of New York, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling about 9,000 bicycle helmets. These helmets fail impact testing and labeling required under CPSC's Safety Standard for Bicycle Helmets, violating the Consumer Product Safety Act. Riders wearing these helmets are not adequately protected from falls, and could suffer severe head injuries or death. CPSC and Cycle Express are not aware of any injuries or incidents involving these helmets. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injuries. The recalled girls' helmets are mostly pink mixed with silver glitter. The pink portion of the helmet is bordered by purple tape. Decals on the helmets read "Hearts & Flowers." These helmets are size small, for ages 2 through 5 years. A label inside the helmet reads "DISTRIBUTED BY: CYCLE EXPRESS." The helmets, which were made in China, are packaged in a box that reads, "Hearts and Flowers Helmet Combo Value Pack" and "Item #10235." The helmets were sold with a bike bag-purse combo and hair accessories. Toys R Us stores sold these helmets with accessories nationwide from October 1999 through April 2000 for about $13. Consumers should stop using these bicycle helmets immediately, and return them to the store where purchased. They will receive a $7 refund, which is the assessed value of the helmet.
