Announce Recall to Repair of Amana Gas Ranges WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Maytag Corp., of Newton, Iowa, is voluntarily recalling to repair about 50,000 Amana Big Oven gas ranges. Maytag acquired Amana Appliances on July 31, 2001. During the broil and self-clean modes, the range can emit high levels of carbon monoxide (CO), presenting the potential for CO poisoning to consumers. Additionally, during the broil and self-clean modes, the temperature of the storage drawer can become extremely high, presenting the risk of burn injuries to consumers. The ranges are safe to use for baking and for cooking on the surface burners. Maytag has received one report of the temperature on the storage drawer becoming extremely high. No injuries have been reported. Consumers should stop using the self-clean or broil functions of the ranges immediately. Announce Recall of Youth ATVs WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), American Suzuki Motor Corp., of Brea, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 7,400 youth all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). The drive chain on these ATVs could come off the sprockets and lock the rear axle. This could cause the driver to could lose control of the ATV and crash, possibly resulting in injury or death. CPSC and American Suzuki Motor Corp. have received one report of a chain coming off the sprockets of one of these ATVs. No injuries were reported. These are 2002 model year Suzuki "QuadMaster 50" ATVs designed for children 6 to 12 years old. The ATV has "QuadMaster 50" written on both sides of the bodywork. Suzuki dealers sold these ATVs nationwide from March 2001 through August 2001 for a list price of about $1,800. Consumers should stop using these ATVs immediately and contact their local Suzuki dealer to schedule an appointment for a free repair. (NSI), of Atlanta, Ga., is voluntarily recalling about 1.1 million bottles of drain cleaner sold in 64 oz., child-resistant bottles. The bottles can leak, allowing the contents of the cleaner to come into contact with consumers. These cleaners can cause irritation and burns to the skin and eyes. NSI has received 16 reports of the bottles leaking, including three incidents involving skin irritations to the leg and hand, and 13 incidents involving property damage. Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Kmart and hardware stores nationwide sold these cleaners from January 2001 through August 2001 for between $3 and $6. The products, which contain methyl alcohol, are not sealed with child-resistant closures as required by federal law. Methyl alcohol, also known as methanol, is toxic and can cause blindness or death if ingested. Blue Coral has received three reports of ingestion, including two children whose parents called the Blue Coral help line and were directed to immediate medical treatment. The recalled products include three brands: Rain-X® Super Glass Cleaner Concentrate, which was sold in 10-oz. and 16.9-oz. plastic bottles, is a blue concentrated liquid that should be added to water; Rain-X® Plus Washer Fluid Concentrate, which was sold in 10-oz. and 16.9-oz. plastic bottles and single-use 1.2-oz. pouches, is a pink concentrated liquid that also should be added to water; and Rain-X® Washer Fluid Additive, which was sold in single-use 2-oz. pouches. The Glass Cleaner and Washer Fluid bottles have a measuring cup built into the cap. A label on the back of the products reads in part, "Blue Coral Slick 50 Ltd." and "Made in USA." Hardware, automotive and department stores nationwide sold the recalled Rain-X® products from September 1998 through August 2001 for between $1 and $5. Consumers should keep these recalled products out of the reach of young children. TH!NK Mobility Recalls Electrically Assisted Bicycles Recall Alert U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 September 18, 2001 Alert #01-525 CPSC, TH!NK Mobility Recall Electrically Assisted Bicycles PRODUCT: Bicycle - TH!NK Mobility, LLC, of Carlsbad, Calif. is voluntarily recalling about 200 of its "TH!NK bike traveler" electric bicycles. The TH!NK traveler is an electric, power assisted bike with 20" wheels and a folding frame. The bikes were distributed nationwide from July 2000 through May 2001 by retailers and through TH!NK Mobility's web site. The serial number is stamped into the inside of the left rear "dropout" of the frame (the dropout is the piece of frame that holds the left-side axle of the rear wheel). The TH!NK bike traveler comes in red (TT20001), blue (TT20002), silver (TT20003), and white (TT20004) and sold for about $995.00. PROBLEM: The top of the handlebar stem binder bolt may twist off while being tightened. INCIDENTS/INJURIES: There is no incidence of the bolt breaking during bike use. No injuries have been reported. Announce Recall to Repair Circular Saws WASHINGTON, D.C.- In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Ryobi Technologies Inc. (RTI), of Anderson, S.C., is recalling to repair about 125,000 circular saws. The lower blade guards on these saws can stick in the open position, posing a risk of serious injury to the operator and bystanders. Ryobi Technologies has not received any reports of incidents. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injuries. The 7 1/4-inch circular saws have a blue plastic body and a metal blade guard. The name "Ryobi" appears on the blade guard and the motor housing. The recalled saws have one of the following model numbers - CSB120, CSB130, CSB1308, CSB130K, or CSB130JS - which can be found on a white label on the motor housing. Some of the recalled saws were sold in kits that included a hard plastic, gray storage case (embossed with "Ryobi Circular Saw") with the saw and blade inside. Home centers (including Home Depot), hardware stores, and catalogs nationwide sold the circular saws from October 1998 through July 2001 for between $60 and $140. Consumers should stop using the saws immediately and contact Ryobi's Consumer Response Team for a free repair kit. The latches on the lower sash of the window can unexpectedly open, posing a potential injury hazard to consumers who can be struck by the window or by shattered glass. Andersen has received 11 reports of the latches unexpectedly opening. There have been no reports of injuries. This recall involves only the tilt latches on the lower sash of the Andersen 200 Series Tilt-Wash Double-Hung Window. This window has the Andersen "A/W" logo etched into the lower right corner of the glass (A), has a latch on both sides of the top of the lower sash (B), and has a product label on the inside of the upper left corner of the window frame (C). The majority of windows were installed by home builders in the construction of new homes. Independent dealers and home centers nationwide also sold these windows to contractors between May 2000 through August 2001. Consumers should immediately ensure that the latches are in the closed position. Cypert, (313) 792-6646 CPSC, Mill's Pride Announce Recall of Assembled Utility Wall Cabinet WASHINGTON, D.C.- In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Mill's Pride, of Waverly, Ohio, is voluntarily recalling about 187,000 "Premier" and "Four Seasons" brand assembled utility wall cabinets. The cabinets can detach from the wall and fall, possibly injuring consumers. Mill's Pride has received 18 reports of cabinets falling from the wall, including four reports of consumers receiving minor injuries such as cuts, scrapes and bruises. The utility cabinets are sold fully assembled and consumer- installed. The cabinets are white and measure 54-inches wide by 24- inches high. Each cabinet has three doors, two adjustable shelves and one divider panel. The cabinets are made of particle board with a white vinyl laminate. There are no identifying labels on the product; however, these were the only assembled white 54-inch utility cabinets sold at Home Depot stores from July 2000 through May 2001. Home Depot stores nationwide exclusively sold the cabinets for about $90. The cables on these stands can break, causing the treestand to fall to the ground, posing an injury hazard to consumers. Hunter's View has not received any reports of injuries. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injuries. The recalled treestands weigh between 16 and 22 lbs., are made of Aluminum and steel, and have a platform and padded seat cushion. The stands are attached to a tree and provide hunters with an elevated view of potential game. (formally Storybook Heirlooms) Recall Children's Pajamas PRODUCT: Children's Pajamas - SBH Restructuring Corporation of Foster City, Calif., the former owner of the Storybook Heirlooms children's apparel business, is voluntarily recalling about 13,900 girls' pajama sets. The pajamas were sold as two-piece pajama sets in sizes XS-XL and made of 100% cotton. Style numbers are located on the label attached to the neck or waistband of the garment. Styles included in the recall are Valentine Cuddlies (200) style no. 26789, Thermal Loungewear style no. 26441 and Valentine Cuddlies (2001) style no. 27338. Storybook Heirlooms catalog and www.StorybookHeirlooms.com sold these garments from December 1999 through March 2001 for between $8 and $34. PROBLEM: These pajamas fail to meet the Federal Standards for the Flammability of Children's Sleepwear and as a result these pajamas pose a risk of injury to children due to the possible ignition of the garment. INCIDENTS/INJURIES: None reported. Announce the of Recall Certain A/C Adaptors for its ZipVac Hand Held Rechargeable Vacuum PRODUCT: AC Adaptor for certain ZipVac Rechargeable Hand Held Vacuums - Oreck Manufacturing Company, of Long Beach, Miss., is recalling A/C adaptors for approximately 10,000 ZipVac rechargeable vacuums. The recalled A/C adaptor is charger model U090010D that has two circular holes in it's A/C's adapter plug end. The vacuums were sold directly by Oreck or by QVC as a premium for the purchase of an Oreck upright vacuum cleaner. The vacuums with the recalled adaptor were sold from February 2001 to June 2001. PROBLEM: The charger can overheat and melt, presenting a burn or electric shock hazard to consumers. INCIDENTS/INJURIES: Oreck has received 22 reports of the charger overheating. Announce Recall of Children's Toy Toolboxes WASHINGTON, D.C.- In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Racing Champions Ertl Inc. (RCE), of Dyersville, Iowa, is voluntarily recalling about 11,600 John Deere Kids Toolboxes. The toy's carrying handle can break, creating small parts and a sharp plastic edge that pose a choking and laceration hazard to young children. CPSC and RCE have not received any reports of injuries. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injuries. The children's toolbox is a soft-shelled, plastic, green box with a yellow handle and yellow raised letters that read "John Deere." A John Deere Kids logo with a fawn inside a red oval is imprinted on the front of the toolbox. The toolbox is sold with a green and yellow plastic ratchet wrench and pliers inside. Stamped on the bottom of the product is "JOHN DEERE LICENSED PRODUCT" and "MADE IN CHINA." All yellow-handled toolboxes are included in this recall. John Deere dealers and other farm supply retail stores nationwide sold the toys from June 2001 through September 2001 for about $13. Parents and caregivers should take the toy away from young children immediately and contact RCE at (866) 898-4999 anytime for instructions on returning these toys and receiving a free replacement toolbox. The antennae on these butterfly toys contain wire that can pass through the fabric, causing cuts and scratches to babies.Kids II has received 27 reports of wires passing through the fabric on the antennae of these toys, resulting in four babies getting cuts to the hand or face, and five babies receiving scratches. The recall involves Carter's Activity Butterflies with 3-inch long bendable antennae. The body of the stuffed butterfly toy is green and purple and the wings are multi-colored. The toy makes various "fun sounds" when squeezed. The stuffed stars on the ends of the antennae contain a squeaker and a rattle. The lower wings make a crinkle sound and one of the upper wings contains a mirror. The toy has model number 50052 written on a small tag behind one of its wings. A date code on the opposite side of this tag ends with, "00433," "00856," "01003," or "01148." Mass merchandise and juvenile specialty stores nationwide sold these butterfly toys from February 2001 through August 2001 for between $15 and $20.Consumers should take these toys away from babies immediately, and return the toy to the store where purchased or contact Kids II for a free replacement butterfly toy. The welds of the metal rings that support the carriers/slings can break, posing a fall hazard to young children. Maya Wrap has received 20 reports of the rings breaking. The company received a report that one child fell to the ground but no injuries were reported. The recalled carriers/slings are made of 100-percent cotton fabric with two metal support rings. The rings measure 1/8-inch in width. They were sold in a variety of colors, prints, and sizes. A large white label sewn in the slings reads in part, "MAYA WRAP" and "ECHO EN GUATEMALA". Web sites and individual distributors nationwide sold these carrier/slings from January 2001 through July 2001 for between $30 and $40. Also, eight children's boutiques in various states sold these carrier/slings. Consumers should stop using these carriers/slings immediately and call Maya Wrap at (888) 629-2972 anytime, or go to the firm's web site at www.mayawrap.com for instructions on how to have the carriers/slings repaired. The glass on these lamps can shatter when lit, posing a fire and laceration hazard to consumers.The Discovery Channel Store, Inc. has received four reports of the lamps shattering, including two reports of minor property damage. There have been no reports of injuries.The recalled lamps come in two shapes: 16 by 7 inch-rectangular, and 7.5 inch-square. The top piece of the clear rectangular lamp has an opening for five wicks, and the top piece of the clear square lamp has an opening for one wick. The lamps have two stacking glass pieces supported by a black metal frame. The lower glass piece has a reservoir for oil.Discovery Channel Stores and The Nature Company stores nationwide sold the lamps from September 1999 through July 2001 for between $18 and $24.Consumers should stop using these lamps immediately and return them to any Discovery Channel Store or The Nature Company store nationwide for a refund. An insufficient connection between the lantern and the propane cylinder can allow gas to escape and ignite unexpectedly, posing a potential fire and injury hazard to consumers. This hazard can occur during the lighting or normal use of the lantern. Wenzel has received 12 reports of propane gas escaping from these lanterns and igniting unexpectedly. Two consumers sustained burns to the arm and hand. One of the consumers also suffered burns to the eye.The recalled lanterns are green and silver with brass fittings, have a glass globe, and stand about 9 inches high (without the propane cylinder attached). The lanterns, when attached to the propane cylinder, sit on a green plastic base on which the model names "Ozark Trail" or "Wenzel" appear. The Ozark Trail model has a double cloth mantle for lighting and the Wenzel model has either a double or single cloth mantle. The models involved are Ozark Trail 824927 and 824928, and Wenzel 824208, 824226, 824227 and 824401, which appear on the box in which the lantern came. Wal-Mart sold the lanterns nationwide under the "Ozark Trail" label from March 1999 through August 2001 for about $18. Sporting goods, camping equipment, and other retail stores nationwide sold these lanterns under the "Wenzel" brand from January 1999 through August 2001 for between $18 and $28. Consumers with Ozark Trail or Wenzel lanterns should stop using them immediately and detach the lantern from the propane cylinder. Consumers should return only the lanterns to the store where purchased for a refund. Snapper Recall of Walk-Behind Lawn Mowers Recall Alert U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 August 28, 2001 Alert #01-521 CPSC, Snapper Announce Recall of Walk-Behind Lawn Mowers PRODUCT: Mowers - Snapper Inc., of McDonough, Ga., is recalling 20,000 walk-behind rotary lawn mowers with model number MR216015T, which were sold nationwide through Snapper dealers between September 1, 1999 and July 1, 2001 for between $300 and $360. All of the recalled units have Tecumseh engines. PROBLEM: Lawn mowers that have a serial number beginning with a 0 may exhibit improper blade retention that could injure the operator or a bystander if the blade separates from the mower's housing. In addition, all Snapper mowers purchased after January 1, 2001, with serial numbers between 11020001-11024924, may have crankshafts that also adversely affect blade retention and require modification by a Snapper dealer. Serial numbers are located on a silver label on the rear of the deck behind the engine as indicated by an arrow in the photograph shown below. INCIDENTS/INJURIES: No reports of blade separation have been received. No injuries have been reported. WHAT TO DO: Consumers who have not received a notice from Snapper regarding this matter or have not been contacted by their Snapper dealer should stop using the MR216015T immediately and return it to the Snapper dealer where purchased for an inspection and possible repair. The AteeA model 32 is a single rider electric golf cart that came in hunter green, or Daytona white. The four-wheeled cart has dual-hand controls, a front-mounted golf bag rack, and a seat basket mounted on the back of the seat. Serial numbers that begin with 32 can be located on a label on the frame of the vehicle near the left front tire. The golf carts were sold nationwide at SoloRider and other golf dealers. The golf carts were sold from October 1999 through March 2000 for $5,000.00 to $9,000.00. PROBLEM: The golf cart's software can be corrupted by static electricity allowing it to move forward without assistance. Riders or bystanders could suffer injuries. INCIDENTS/INJURIES: SoloRider has received one report of a showroom golf cart that continued to operate after it was turned off. No injuries have been reported.
