Announce Recall of Doll Feeding Sets WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Dollar Tree Stores Inc., of Chesapeake, Va., is recalling about 700,000 doll feeding sets. The doll bib in the set has snaps that detach, presenting a choking hazard to young children. CPSC and Dollar Tree Stores Inc. are not aware of any injuries involving these bibs. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injuries. The recalled doll feeding set consists of a bib with pink and blue baby cupids, a plastic baby food jar with pink top and a label reading "Love My Baby Baby Food", baby bottle, two-handle pink cup, and a small blue container. Writing on the packaging reads "Love My Baby Doll Care Feeding Set." On the back right-hand corner of the package is SKU number 563239. The set was sold in a box labeled for children ages 4 years and over. Dollar Tree Stores nationwide sold the doll feeding sets during December 1999 for about $1.00. Consumers should take this recalled toy away from young children immediately and return it to any Dollar Tree Store for a refund. CPSC, Appliance Co. of America Announce Recall of Toaster Ovens WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Appliance Co. of America, of Great Neck, N.Y., recalled about 7,000 Welbilt toaster ovens. The ovens' heating elements can break, causing the glass door to shatter. The toasters could short circuit, causing electrical shocks and fires. Appliance Co. of America has received 14 reports of heating elements breaking. In one incident, the glass door broke, and in another, a countertop was scorched. No injuries have been reported. These Welbilt toaster ovens with rotisserie and griddle have model number TR660 on the back of the oven. The oven is white and black about 17 inches wide and 12 inches high, and has a glass door. Three knobs on the right side of the oven control the temperature; function, such as broil, rotisserie, toast and bake; and length of time. "WELBILT® Toaster Oven With Rotisserie & Griddle" is written on the oven's lower-right front. Club, discount and department stores, and mail order catalogs sold the toaster ovens nationwide from January 2000 through May 2000 for about $100. Consumers should stop using these toaster ovens immediately and discard or destroy them. The firm is out of business and cannot be contacted.

Announce Recall to Replace "Elmo Nitelights" WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), The First Years Inc., of Avon, Mass., is voluntarily recalling about 123,000 "Elmo Nitelights." The faceplate on these nightlights can be broken off, exposing wiring and posing shock and electrocution hazards. CPSC and The First Years have received three reports of the faceplates on these nightlights breaking off resulting in two 1-year-old girls and an adult receiving an electrical shock when touching the exposed wires. The "Elmo Nitelight" shows the Sesame Street character Elmo, who is red, hanging onto a green lamp post set on a blue background. A moon and stars surround the light part of the lamp post, which illuminates when the light is plugged in. It measures 4.25 inches long by 2.75 inches wide and fits over the entire standard outlet coverplate. "Henson" and "the first years" are imprinted on the back of the nightlights. The cardboard packaging shows a picture of the Sesame Street character Big Bird, and includes the writing, "SESAME STREET" and "nitelight." Discount, drug, grocery and toy stores sold these nightlights from July 1997 through March 2000 for between $5 and $6. Consumers should immediately remove the "Elmo Nitelights" from their sockets and throw them away. If wires are exposed, turn off the power before removing. Bicycle Trailers WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Burley Design Cooperative, of Eugene, Ore., is voluntarily recalling about 2,200 Burley-Bravo? bicycle trailers, used to transport young children. The wheel can separate from these trailers during use, and result in crashes and injuries to children riding inside. Loss of control to the bicycle pulling these trailers also can cause the riders to crash and suffer injuries. Burley has received one report of a wheel coming off of one of these trailers, causing the bicycle rider to fall and suffer minor injuries. Burley-Bravo? trailers included in this recall were made between November 1999 and June 2000 with serial numbers 430-01-1 through 430-29- 160. Serial numbers, manufacturing date and the words "BRAVO TRAILER" are located on a label on the underside of the aluminum frame adjacent to the right wheel. The blue and yellow trailers are designed to carry two children. They are 34 inches long (not including hitch), 26 inches wide and 33 inches high with a weight capacity of 100 pounds. Writing on the front of the trailer reads, "BURLEY." Writing on the trailer's rain/sun cover reads, "Burley Bravo." Authorized Burley dealers and bicycle shops nationwide sold these trailers from November 1999 through June 2000 for about $350. Consumers should stop using these Burley-Bravo? trailers immediately, and return them to the store where purchased for a free inspection and repair, if needed. Riders wearing these helmets are not properly protected from falls, and could suffer severe head injuries. CPSC and Rand International are not aware of any injuries or incidents involving these products. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injuries and incidents. The recalled helmets are various models of the L.A. Cruisin' bicycle helmets. The helmets were sold in various child, youth and adult sizes. The youth and adult-sized helmets are white or black and the child sizes are either blue or pink. A label inside the helmet reads, "Manufactured by Rand International," and MADE IN CHINA." Writing on the packaging reads, "RAND," "L.A. Cruisin'," and "Meets CPSC & ASTM Standards78." Kmart and Rose's stores nationwide sold these bicycle helmets from April 1999 through March 2000 for about $8. Consumers should stop wearing these bicycle helmets immediately, and return them to Rand International for a free replacement helmet. These helmets fail impact testing and labeling required under CPSC's Safety Standard for Bicycle Helmets, violating the Consumer Product Safety Act. Riders wearing these helmets are not adequately protected from falls, and could suffer severe head injuries or death. CPSC and Cycle Express are not aware of any injuries or incidents involving these helmets. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injuries. The recalled girls' helmets are mostly pink mixed with silver glitter. The pink portion of the helmet is bordered by purple tape. Decals on the helmets read "Hearts & Flowers." These helmets are size small, for ages 2 through 5 years. A label inside the helmet reads "DISTRIBUTED BY: CYCLE EXPRESS." The helmets, which were made in China, are packaged in a box that reads, "Hearts and Flowers Helmet Combo Value Pack" and "Item #10235." The helmets were sold with a bike bag-purse combo and hair accessories. Toys R Us stores sold these helmets with accessories nationwide from October 1999 through April 2000 for about $13. Consumers should stop using these bicycle helmets immediately, and return them to the store where purchased. They will receive a $7 refund, which is the assessed value of the helmet. The tires can detach from the wheels of these cars, posing a choking hazard for young children. Kellogg has received two reports of the tires detaching from the wheels of these toy cars. No injuries have been reported. These Nascar® Pull'N Go Hot Wheels® style toy cars are red and yellow with a white hood. Pulling the car backwards a few inches on a surface causes it to go forward. "Kellogg's™," is written on the hood, and the number "5™" and "Terry Labonte™" is written on the roof. The words "China" and "MFG. FOR KELLOGG CO.?, © 2000" are molded into the plastic underframe. No other Kellogg's® Pull'N Go cars or Hot Wheels® cars are part of this recall. MFG. FOR KELLOGG CO.?, © 2000 KELLOGG CO. Various club and a few grocery stores nationwide sold these cars in specially marked packages of Kellogg's® Tri-Fun-Pak™ 40-ounce box, Kellogg's® Froot Loops® 43.6-ounce box, Kellogg's® Mini-Wheats® Frosted Bite Size 58.8-ounce box, and Kellogg's® Crispix® 31.4-ounce box. The cars were distributed inside boxes of these cereals from March 2000 through June 2000. When bent, these teething rings can fit into an infant's mouth and trigger a gagging reflex. This poses a risk of vomiting, which could result in choking and aspiration. Whitehall-Robins Healthcare has received two reports from consumers of children gagging on the teething rings, including one report of a child starting to choke. These teethers were sold with .25 oz. tubes of Baby Anbesol® Grape Gel, an oral anesthetic. The teethers are yellow and shaped like rabbits. They are about 3 inches long and 2.25 inches high. Two holes are molded into the teething ring for infants to grasp. The packaging reads, "THE BABY'S TEETHING KIT," and "FAST TEETHING PAIN RELIEF." Mass merchandise, drug and grocery stores nationwide sold Baby Anbesol with these teethers from May 1999 through June 2000 for about $6. Consumers should take these teething rings away from infants immediately. Announce Recall of Sky Dancers® Flying Dolls WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Galoob® Toys Inc., of San Francisco, Calif., is recalling about 8.9 million Sky Dancers® flying dolls. Galoob® was purchased by Hasbro in 1998. The hard plastic Sky Dancers® dolls can fly rapidly in unpredictable directions, and can hit and injure both children and adults. Galoob® has received 170 reports of the dolls striking children and adults resulting in 150 reports of injuries. They include eye injuries, including scratched corneas and incidents of temporary blindness, broken teeth, a mild concussion, a broken rib, and facial lacerations that required stitches. The recalled Sky Dancers® dolls were sold in many different styles, including Pretty Lights Sky Dancers, Mini-Sky Dancers and Fairy Flyers. The princess/ballerina-type dolls have hair pulled up into a pony tail and have stiff foam wing-covered arms that propel the doll when it is launched. The launchers, sold in many shapes including dolphins, flowers, moon, ponies, and sun and rainbow, have a molded plastic base and a pull-cord. The launchers were sold in both hand-held and table-top versions. The doll is inserted into the top of the launcher feet-first, and the pull-cord is pulled to launch the doll. The packaging is labeled "Sky Dancers®", "galoob®", "MADE IN CHINA", "Ages 5 and Up Only" and "Not for children under 3 years". Mass merchandise and toy stores nationwide sold the dolls from November 1994 through June 2000 for between $8 to $25. The fuel tank vents on these products can leak, posing a fire hazard. Tanaka and CPSC have received one report of a hedge trimmer catching fire and causing minor damage. No injuries have been reported. The products are orange with black handles and have "Tanaka" and the model number printed on the recoil starter cover. The serial number is located on a label on the side of the engine. Consumers with a recalled hedge trimmer or auger should stop using it immediately and return it to any authorized Tanaka service dealer for a free repair. The equipment will be fitted with a redesigned fuel tank. CPSC, Today's Kids Announce Recall of Spinning Ride Toys WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Today's Kids, of Dallas, Texas, recalledabout 103,000 spinning ride toys. The center column can break, causing a child to suddenly fall backward or be hit in the face by the broken column. Today's Kids had received 1,427 reports of the toys'columns breaking off, resulting in five injuries. Injuries include bumps on heads, cut faces and split lips. Two children required stitches. The Music & Lights Kidaround Spinner? is a purple turntable with a green column through the middle, which is topped by a yellow steering wheel. The child sits on the turntable and spins around by turning on the steering wheel. The toy plays five songs and lights flash while the child is spinning. The toy's packaging indicates it is intended for children 11/2 to 5 years old. A sticker on the center of the steering wheel reads, "today's kids®". The battery cover, on the side of the green column reads, "MADE IN CHINA". The bottom of the turntable reads, "MADE IN U.S.A.". Toy and discount department stores nationwide sold these spinning ride toys from July 1999 through May 2000 for about $20. Consumers should take these spinning ride toys away from children immediately, and discard or destroy these products. CPSC, Apollo Presentation Products Announce Recall of Light Boxes WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Apollo Presentation Products, of Ronkonkoma, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling about 30,000 portable light boxes, used to view film, slides and transparencies. The light boxes have loose wires and lack adequate grounding, presenting fire, electrocution and shock hazards to consumers. CPSC has received two reports of loose wires, one in which the light box caught fire, resulting in $5,000 property damage. No injuries have been reported. The recalled Apollo light boxes are models LB100, LB101, LB102 and LB110. The model number is located on a sticker affixed to the unit's side. The sticker also reads in part, "Portable Light Box...CSA." The light box consists of a white metal box, containing a fluorescent light, and a Plexiglas viewing plate that slides into two black metal guides on top of the metal box. The light box has a folding handle and tilt stand, and it can be wall mounted. The light boxes were sold in a box labeled in part, "APOLLO PRESENTATION PRODUCTS, GLOWPRO PORTABLE LIGHT BOX, Made in China." A photo of the product and the model number are on the box. Office supply stores nationwide sold the light boxes from June 1997 through April 2000 for $66 to $115. Consumers should stop using the recalled light boxes immediately, and call ATVS, Inc. (which is now handling this recall) for instructions on returning the projectors to the company for a refund. The toy phones have a ball-shaped antenna which can detach, presenting a choking hazard to young children. CPSC and Vtech Industries have received nine reports of the plastic ball detaching from these phones. One child reportedly started to choke on one of these plastic balls. The toy is called Little Smart Soft Songs Baby Phone. The cordless baby phone has a mirror, four colorful talking musical buttons, a ringing light-up phone button and a red on/off button. The phone is yellow with a blue padded border and a yellow ball-shaped antenna. A label on these toys reads "Soft Songs Baby Phone 39100." Writing on the phone includes "VTECH" and "Little Smart Soft Songs Baby Phone." Wal-mart stores nationwide sold the toy phones from January 2000 through May 2000 for about $10. Consumers should immediately take these toy phones away from children. Announce Recall to Repair Children's Rocking Chairs Sold at Target Stores WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Jetmax International Ltd., of Stamford, Conn., is voluntarily recalling to repair about 48,000 children's rocking chairs. The rear legs of the chair can separate from the rocker's base causing it to collapse, and the child seated in the chair can fall. Jetmax has received five reports of these chairs collapsing and children falling. One 13-month-old girl suffered a laceration requiring 18 stitches. Jetmax imported the rocker exclusively for sale by Target stores. The wooden rocking chairs come in two styles: one for boys and one for girls. The boy's rocker has a yellow frame, red rockers (chair bases) and a blue canvas seat. The girl's rocker has a white frame, purple rockers (chair bases) and a pink canvas seat. There is no writing on the chairs, but the packaging reads, "restore? & RESTYLE KIDS," "Wooden Folding Chair," "Ages 3 and Up," and "Made in China." The chairs are designed for children between 30 and 100 pounds. They are 23 inches long, 13 inches wide and 16.5 inches high. Target stores nationwide sold the rocking chairs from November 1999 through March 2000 for about $20. Announce Recall of Vinyl Window Blinds WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Ace Hardware Corp., of Oak Brook, Ill., is recalling about 87,000 vinyl window blinds. These blinds contain lead exceeding government guidelines, and do not have required labeling warning they contain lead. Over time, vinyl deteriorates from exposure to sunlight and heat, forming lead dust on the surface of the blind. Young children can ingest lead by wiping their hands on the blinds and then putting their hands in their mouths. Lead poisoning in children is associated with behavioral problems, learning disabilities, hearing problems and growth retardation. CPSC and Ace Hardware are not aware of any lead poisonings involving these window blinds. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of lead poisonings. The recalled vinyl blinds are white miniblinds and woodgrain roll- up blinds. Sizes of the blinds range from 23-inches wide by 42-inches long to 72-inches wide by 120-inches long. Writing on the label of the white miniblinds reads "Safe Nonleaded Vinyl Formulation." Writing on the label of both blinds reads "MANUFACTURED IN THAILAND FOR ACE HARDWARE CORP." Ace Hardware and other hardware stores nationwide sold the window blinds from August 1999 through May 2000 for between $6 and $27. Consumers should remove the window blinds from windows and keep them away from children. Consumers can return the window blinds to the store where they were purchased for a refund. These walkers can collapse unexpectedly during use and injure infants. Graco has received 27 reports of these walkers collapsing. Injuries to infants have included a cut toe, a bump on the head, a sprained foot, and scrapes and bruises to legs and feet. The recalled Tot Wheels® Entertainer® Activity Center infant walkers, with "bouncing action" and five-position height adjustment, have model numbers 4032LN or 4032BLA, located underneath the front of the walker's tray. The walker has a removable, green play tray with 12 activities, including a steering wheel, ball spinner and flashing lights. The multicolor walker has an animal-print fabric seat. "Graco Lights & Sounds" is written on a label on the walker tray. "Tot Wheels® Entertainer® Activity Center with Bounce" is written on a label on the walker's base. Mass merchandise, juvenile products and major discount department stores nationwide, including Wal-Mart and Toys R Us, sold the walkers from September 1999 through February 2000 for about $50. These robes, when used as sleepwear, fail to meet federal flammability standards for children's sleepwear. The standards require sleepwear, including robes, to be flame resistant, and if the garment ignites, the flame must self-extinguish. Failure to meet the flammability standards presents a risk of serious burn injuries to children. Federated Department Stores has not received any reports of injuries from these robes. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury. The recalled robes are made of 100 percent cotton terry cloth sold under the brand names Aegean, Baby Monarch, b kids, Charter Club, Club Room, and Jr. By Monarch. The robes are a wrap style with waist belt, two front patch pockets and a hood. They were sold in boys and girls sizes 12 months to 14 and in sizes small, medium, large and extra large. The robes come in a variety of colors and prints. The brand name, fabric content and size are on sewn-in on labels. The robes were sold at the following stores from July 1995 through January 2000 for about $25 to $52. The balloon tongue on this toy can detach, posing a choking and aspiration hazard to young children. The Promotional Resources Group has received one report of the balloon tongue detaching from the toy. A 3-year-old boy reportedly removed the balloon tongue, placed it in his nose and inhaled it into his sinus cavity. He required medical treatment to remove the part from his nose. The Bug Zapper toy comes in two different styles: a frog and a lizard. When the toy is squeezed, the balloon tongue of the toy rolls out from the mouth about 2 inches. They toys were mainly orange, green and purple. "CHINA" is molded into the toy. Fast food, drive-in and small franchise restaurants distributed these toys with children's meal from November 1998 through April 2000. Consumers should immediately take these toys from young children, and return the toy to the restaurant where the children's meal was purchased for a free replacement toy.
