The switches on these power tools, which were manufactured by Eaton Corp., of Cleveland, Ohio, can stick. The drills can continue to operate after the trigger is released, posing a risk of injury to consumers. Milwaukee Electric Tool Corp. has received four reports of drill switches sticking in the on position and one report of a hand injury. DEWALT has received three reports of drill switches sticking in the on position but no reported injuries. The drills were sold under the brand names, Milwaukee Electric Tool 1/2" drills and DEWALT 1/2" Stud & Joist Drills. CPSC, Fisher-Price Announce Recall of Basketball Sets WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Fisher-Price, of East Aurora, N.Y., is recalling about 55,000 basketball sets to replace the nets. Some of the nets have enlarged openings. If children put their heads into these enlarged openings, the net can get tangled around their necks and they could strangle. Fisher-Price has not received any reports of injuries. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injuries. The recalled Grow-to-Pro Basketball set has a black pole that adjusts from 3 to 6 feet. A nylon net with an orange plastic hoop is attached to the pole, along with a gray backboard. The Fisher-Price logo is on the front of the backboard; and the model number, 72408, along with the words, "Made in U.S.A." are on the other side of the backboard. Toy, mass merchandise and discount stores sold these toys nationwide from January 2001 through May 2001 for about $30. Consumers should stop using the basketball set immediately. CPSC, Vermont Castings, Majestic Products Announce Recall of Space Heaters WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Vermont Castings, Majestic Products (VCMP), of Ontario, Canada, recalled about 3,900 space heaters. Overheating inside the space heaters can cause the exterior to become extremely hot, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers. VCMP had received three reports of the space heaters overheating, resulting in scorched floors and wall coverings. No injuries have been reported The recalled heaters are white with a silver grill cover. The vent-less heaters have the name "Vermont Castings" on the label directly below the grill. The heater model numbers start with the letters VBVH or VPVH and can be found on a rating plate on the left side of the heater. Independent retailers in the southeastern U.S. sold these recalled heaters from August 2000 to January 2001 for $200 to $400. Consumers should stop using the heaters immediately and discard or destroy them. The company is no longer in business and a remedy is no longer available.

The overpressure valve can stick in the open position, presenting a drowning hazard to divers. Sheico has received one report of a valve sticking open. No injuries have been reported. Announce Recall of Wrestling Ear Guards WASHINGTON, D.C.- In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), ASICS TIGER Corp., of Irvine, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 60,000 ear guards used in wrestling. The plastic protective shell of these guards can break when it is hit against a hard surface, resulting in impact injuries to the wrestler's head.ASICS TIGER Corp. has received 10 reports of the plastic shells of these guards breaking, resulting in three injuries. The injuries reported include cuts and abrasions to the side of the head and ear.The recall involves ASIC Gel Wrestling Ear Guard with Neoprene. The guard includes two plastic ear pieces covered with neoprene nylon. The ASICS red logo is on a label on the guard's strap. A gold label inside the guard reads, "MADE IN CHINA." A date code can be found written on the neoprene nylon underneath the outer rim of the ear piece. The recalled guards have date codes beginning with "98" or "99." Announce Recall of Goldstar, General Electric, and Sears Kenmore Dehumidifiers WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), LG Electronics Inc., of Seoul, South Korea, is voluntarily recalling about 100,000 Goldstar, General Electric, and Sears Kenmore portable dehumidifiers. These dehumidifiers have an internal electrical connection that can overheat, presenting a potential fire hazard to consumers.LG Electronics has received seven reports of dehumidifiers overheating, including four reports of fire within the units, with smoke damage to surrounding objects. No injuries have been reported. The recalled dehumidifiers are white, with a red auto shut off button, and regulators for fan speed and humidity control. The dehumidifiers were manufactured between November 1998 and May 1999, and have the following brand names and model numbers: Goldstar DH2510, DH4010 and DH5010; General Electric AHG25LAG1, AHG40LAG1 and AHG50LAG1; and Sears Kenmore 580.59600890 (60-pint model only). The brand name is located to the left of the control unit. The regulator's first stage spring can break causing restricted airflow, posing a drowning hazard to consumers.Atomic Aquatics has received 14 reports of regulator springs breaking, four of which occurred while the scuba equipment was in use. No injuries have been reported.The recalled regulators have a black body with either a gray, blue, red or yellow faceplate. Printed on the faceplate of the regulator are the words, "Atomic Aquatics"; the model name, "Titanium"; and the model number, T1, T1x, B1 or Z1.The regulators were manufactured between May 1999 and October 1999, and have serial numbers that range from A07751 to A11276. The serial numbers can be found on a label beneath the rubber mouthpiece.Specialty dive equipment stores nationwide sold the regulators from May 1999 through February 2000 for between $450 and $1,600.Consumers should stop using these regulators immediately and return them to Atomic Aquatics or an authorized Atomic Aquatics dealer for repair. The Model 797, which is painted white, and the Model 797 DFT, which is painted gray, have a control panel with temperature and wattage selections. CPSC, Fisher-Price Announce Recall of Infant and Toddler Toys WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Fisher-Price, of East Aurora, N.Y., is recalling about 20,000 infant and toddler Intelli-Table toys for repair. Two red knobs on the toy can break off, creating small parts that can pose a choking hazard for young children. Fisher-Price has received 32 reports of the knobs breaking off the toys. A 14-month old child was found with a knob in her mouth. Her mother removed it and no injuries have been reported. The Intelli-Table is a round, plastic activity table with a blue, removable top that uses three interchangeable play rings to help children learn numbers, music, and games. The toy is intended for children ages nine to 36 months. The base of the Intelli-Table is red with three legs that are blue, yellow and teal green. The play rings are colored white, yellow and teal green. The red knobs on the yellow ring and white ring can break off. The toy has a Fisher-Price logo on the blue removable top; and has the model number, 77148, and the words, "Mattel, Inc." and "China," molded into the bottom of the red base. Only models manufactured from September 25, 2000 through October 7, 2000 are being recalled. The recalled models have a date code from 269(0) through 281(0) molded into the underside of the blue, removable top. Toy, mass merchandise and discount stores sold these toys nationwide from October 2000 through March 2001 for about $70. Consumers should take the toys away from young children immediately and contact Fisher-Price toll-free at (800) 220-7137 anytime to order a free repair kit with replacement knobs. The repair kit consists of two replacement knobs with new screws. These propane regulators, manufactured by Chen Fong Enterprise Co. Ltd., of Taiwan, are used to regulate the flow of propane from pressurized containers. These regulators can leak propane, which can result in a fire or explosion. The leak can cause the appliance flame to be larger than expected, possibly causing burns to nearby consumers and cause nearby combustibles to catch fire. Hurricane Products, the importer and distributor, has received 125 reports of these regulators leaking propane. There have been no reports of fires or injuries occurring as a result of these regulators leaking. The propane regulator is used primarily with recreational vehicles and in some homes that use propane as a fuel source for one or more appliances. The regulator has two input valves and one output valve. "Model 6000" is imprinted on the top of the regulator. The patent number, "5103861," is imprinted on the bottom of the regulator, as well as "MADE IN TAIWAN." The date of manufacture also is imprinted on the bottom of the regulator in a four-digit date code, indicating the month and year manufactured. Regulators of "0196," indicating January 1996, through "1099," indicating October 1999, are part of this recall. Recreational vehicle dealers and LP Gas dealers nationwide sold these propane regulators from June 1996 through October 1999 for about $22. Consumers with recalled regulators should immediately stop using them by closing the main valve on the propane container. Consumers should contact the outlet where the regulator was purchased or call Emerald Isle, which is conducting the recall for Hurricane Products, at (877) 673-3278 toll-free between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday to get information on receiving a free replacement propane regulator. These regulators are not the type of regulator typically used with propane barbecue grills.

The vent flue insulation can be out of position on these ranges. Using the broil or self-clean functions on these ranges can cause scorching or burning of the cabinetry around the range, posing a fire hazard.Maytag has received two reports of fires resulting in minor damage because the insulation was out of position on the ranges. There have been no reports of injuries.The recall involves Maytag and Magic Chef gas ranges. They have model numbers CGS1230, CGS1740, CGS3760, MGS5770 or MGS5870. They also have serial numbers ending in WU, WW, WY, WZ, YB, YF and YH. The model and serial numbers are located on a plate just behind the front of the roll-out storage drawer. "Maytag" or "Magic Chef" is on the front of the range. Department, appliance and specialty stores nationwide sold these ranges from September 1999 through April 2000 for between $400 and $1,300.Consumers should stop using the broil and self-clean functions of these ranges immediately. Recall Baseball Video Games to Replace Bats WASHINGTON, D.C.- In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Radica USA Ltd., of Dallas, Texas, is voluntarily recalling about 140,000 baseball video games to replace the bats. The bats can separate during a swing. Broken pieces can hit a bystander and cause injury. Radica USA Ltd. has received seven reports of consumers, including children, being hit by pieces of the broken bat, resulting in a split lip, facial lacerations, a bump on the head and bruising. Play TV Baseball is a video game that plugs directly into a television set, and simulates hitting a baseball. It contains an electronic home plate, ball and plastic bat. The user faces the television standing above the electronic home plate, which emits an infrared beam. When a simulated pitch is made on the television screen, the user swings the bat to hit the simulated ball. Electronics in the bat communicate the swing action to the home plate, and the results appear on the television screen. Writing on the home base of the game includes "RADICA:" and PLAY TV Baseball." Writing on the black bat includes "RADICA:" and "MADE IN CHINA." Major retail stores nationwide sold this video game from June 2000 through January 2001 for about $50. Remedy: Consumers should immediately take these recalled toys away from children and contact Radica to arrange for the return of the Play TV Baseball to receive a replacement of Play TV Baseball III. Announce Recall of Christmas Candles PRODUCT: - Peppermint Basket Candles - The Paper Magic Group, Inc., of Scranton, Pa., is voluntarily recalling about 31,000 Christmas candles. They consist of a fragranced candle in a red and white "peppermint striped" ceramic candle holder. The candle holder is in the shape of a basket and includes a decorative ceramic handle that extends over the top of the basket. The basket is about 4 inches in diameter and the handle extends about 3.5 inches over the top of the basket. The name "Candle Illusions" is on the bottom of the basket. Drug and grocery stores nationwide sold these candles from October 2000 through December 2000 for about $6. PROBLEM: The ceramic handle that extends over the top of the basket can become hot during use, posing a burn hazard if touched. INCIDENTS/INJURIES: The Paper Magic Group has received one report of a consumer that received a minor burn injury. The toys were distributed at 800 Chick-fil-A restaurants nationwide during January 2001 and during January 1999. The suction cup on the toy can come off, presenting a choking hazard to young children. Chick-fil-A has received seven reports that the suction cup on the toy came off. In one case, a child began choking but the parent removed the suction cup before medical treatment was needed. The "Planet Discovery" toys are plastic disks (about 2 to 3 inches in diameter) with a suction cup (about 1.5 inch in diameter) on the back. The toys depict all of the planets plus the moon and the sun. Each toy comes in a plastic bag labeled "Planets: Collect Them All!" A paragraph on the bag also says: "Parents: This toy has been safety- tested for children of all ages." The planet toy itself says "Chick- fil-A Inc. 1999," "1998 Namkung Promotions Inc," and "China." Parents should immediately take away the toy from young children. The small decorative metal appliques on the legs of the garments can come loose and separate, posing a choking hazard to young children. The company has received one report of a child mouthing a metal piece that had separated from the garment. The denim jeans and overalls were sold in sizes 6 months through 6X. They have the following style numbers on the bottom of the care label: KL11450, KH11448, JL21338, JH21408, and JH31288. "Made in Indonesia" and the size is on the front of the care label. With the free rewire option, a GE-authorized technician will rewire the slide switch at no cost to consumers. This supplements the original rebate program announced October 19, 1999. The dishwashers have a slide switch that can melt and ignite, presenting a fire hazard. CPSC is aware of approximately 90 incidents associated with these dishwashers. GE manufactured 3.1 million of these dishwashers between 1983 and 1989. In the recall announced last year, GE provided consumers with a rebate toward the purchase of a new dishwasher. CPSC and GE are announcing the supplemental rewiring option to increase the effectiveness of the original program, which has to date been implemented in over 628,000 units. CPSC and GE are cooperating in an effort to reach people who may not have previously come forward. Both the CPSC and GE strongly urge consumers who have not replaced their recalled units under the original rebate program to contact GE right away to schedule a free rewiring or participate in the original rebate program. Until the dishwasher has been rewired, consumers should keep the dishwasher door unlatched at all times to prevent the flow of electrical current that creates a risk of fire. The slide switch allows consumers to choose between heated drying and "energy saver" functions. Over time, the slide switch can melt and ignite, presenting a fire hazard. In the free rewiring program announced today, GE-authorized technicians will rewire the slide switch, eliminating it from the electrical circuit and thereby eliminating the fire risk. There have been approximately 90 incidents of fire, smoking and melted switches, 14 of which included fires that spread beyond the dishwasher. Approximately 10 incidents have occurred since the recall announcement. No injuries have been reported. The GE and Hotpoint dishwashers involved are models beginning with GSD500D, GSD500G, GSD540, HDA467, HDA477, or HDA487 with a serial number that has a second letter of A, M, R, S, T, V or Z (for example, BM12345). The model and serial numbers are located on a rectangular label that is on either the right or left front edge of the inner tub. The GE or Hotpoint brand name is on the front of the dishwasher. Consumers that have one of these recalled dishwashers should immediately discontinue use, unlatch the door, and contact GE at 1-800- 599-2929 anytime or at www.geappliancerecall.com.
