TRX ATVs (Honda) – Suspension Mounting Issue (2000)

Honda Rancher TRX350 ATVs A mounting bracket on the front suspension of the Honda Rancher TRX350 models could be welded improperly to the frame. If this mounting bracket breaks, the vehicle could lose steering control and crash. These ATVs are red, orange or olive green. "Honda Rancher" is written on the sides of the ATV's fuel tank. Kwong, (203)783-2049 CPSC, BIC Clarify Recall ***MEDIA ADVISORY***WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in cooperation with BIC Corporation of Milford, Conn., clarified that the recall of cigarette lighters without child-resistant technology announced on September 14 does not include lighters sold by BIC Corporation in the United States. The "BIC" brand lighters were illegally brought into the U.S. by Vaid Enterprises, a New Jersey importer. They were not imported or sold by BIC Corporation. The Customs Service discovered this illegal activity and brought it to the attention of CPSC."We want to clarify that the recall involves only BIC lighters illegally imported into the U.S. by Vaid Enterprises," said Russ Rader, Director, Office of Public Affairs of the CPSC. "The recall does not involve lighters sold in the U.S. by BIC. In the United States, BIC sells only lighters with a child-resistant mechanism."BIC Corporation is taking legal action against Vaid Enterprises for the illegal importation of these lighters. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported. The recalled lighters are not equipped with the metal shield over the sparkwheel, whereas the child-resistant lighters have that shield. CPSC, Fisher-Price Announce Recall of Children's Riding Vehicles WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Fisher-Price, of East Aurora, N.Y., is recalling about 218,000 battery-powered Power Wheels Harley-Davidson motorcycle ride-ons for repair. The foot pedals, which activate the ride-ons, can stick in the "on" position. Children can be injured when the motorcycle ride-ons fail to stop and strike other objects. Fisher-Price has received nine reports of the foot pedal on these vehicles sticking. One 3-year-old boy suffered cuts and bruises when his motorcycle ride-ons ran into a home. The recalled Power Wheels Harley-Davidson motorcycle ride-ons have model numbers 74290, 74293 (with a red body) and 74298 (with a black body). A "Power Wheels by Fisher-Price" logo is located on the left side of the seat on the product, and the model number is located on a label in the battery compartment. Only model numbers 74290, 74293 and 74298 are being recalled. These vehicles are intended for children 3 and older, and the vehicles' speed is 2.5 or 5 mph. Toy, mass merchandise and discount stores, and Harley-Davidson dealerships sold the motorcycle ride-ons nationwide from September 1999 through August 2000 for about $190 for the red vehicle and $700 for the black vehicle. Consumers should stop using these motorcycle ride-ons immediately, and call Fisher-Price to determine if your vehicle is part of this recall. Consumers with recalled ride-ons will receive a free foot pedal repair kit. The repair can be easily completed in the home. These cylinders can have missing or damaged internal seals in the cylinder valves. Propane can leak, posing a risk of fire, explosion and burn injuries. R4 Technical Center has not received any reports of injuries. These propane cylinders have a sleeve over the tank with the writing "Blue Rhino" and a drawing of a blue rhinoceros. The recalled cylinders have either three stars arranged in a triangular shape under the top knob of the valve or the writing "B-75-3" on the side of the valve. Home center, discount department and hardware stores, and gas stations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, Florida and Mississippi sold these propane cylinders from May 2000 through July 2000 for about $40 to $60 for a tank or $13 to $16 for a tank exchange. Consumers with the recalled valves should check for leaks by following the "Connection Instructions" on the cylinder's label. If the valve is leaking, turn it off immediately, and call the R4 Technical Center toll-free at (866) 802-4492 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. ET Monday through Friday to receive a free replacement cylinder. CPSC, Fisher-Price Announce Recall of Swings and Toys WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Fisher-Price, of East Aurora, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling about 2.5 million Lift 'n Lock Swings, and about 246,000 Get Up & Go Walkers, which are push toys. Recall of "Lift & Lock Swings" The Lift & Lock Swing is an outdoor swing for children 9 months to 3 years. The swing has a plastic "T"-shaped restraint shield to hold children in the seat. Children can maneuver out of the restraints and fall out of the swings, resulting in serious injuries. Fisher-Price has received 110 reports of children falling out of the swings, and 38 children suffered injuries. Eight children suffered serious injuries, including a fractured skull, leg, arm and two collarbones; two concussions; and stitches to the forehead. Thirty children received minor injuries including bumps, bruises and scrapes. The Lift & Lock Swings have red or purple plastic seats, yellow "T"- shaped restraint shields and blue ropes. "Fisher-Price(r)" is written on the front of the restraint shield. The swings have model numbers 2092, 75960, 75970, 75973 or 75980 molded into the back part of the seat. Mass merchandise, juvenile products and discount department stores sold these swings from January 1991 through August 2000 for about $19. Consumers should stop using the swings immediately. Fisher-Price will provide a free repair kit with a supplemental waist and crotch restraint belt. Consumers can also view a video clip about this recall (transcript). Recall of "Get Up & Go Walkers" The Get Up & Go Walker is a three-sided push toy, which looks like a car, designed for children to support themselves as they are learning to stand and walk. Young children leaning forward on the front of the toys can tip them over and fall. Also, the windshield wipers on some of the toys, which stick out, can injure young children when they fall. Fisher-Price has received 330 reports of children falling while using or near the product. A total of 132 children received injuries such as bumps, bruises, scratches and cuts. The Get Up & Go Walker is white with blue sides. It has activities such as a rotating mirror/phone, toy windshield wiper and steering wheel with yellow horn. The back wheels of the walker can be locked into place to prevent rolling as babies learn to stand. The Fisher-Price logo is located on the outside of the toy between the headlight decorations. Models with a front bar for babies to grasp and/or a green windshield wiper are included in the recall. Fisher-Price will help consumers determine if they have a recalled product. Toy, mass merchandise and discount stores sold these push-behind toys from July 1997 through August 2000 for about $30. Consumers should stop children from using the toys immediately and call Fisher-Price for a free repair kit that will eliminate the front bar and windshield wiper. About 882,000 Hop, Skip, Jumpers are being recalled along with about 267,000 Big ActionTM Construction toys. Recall of Hop, Skip, JumpersThe Hop, Skip, Jumper is an activity seat for babies to sit in while suspended from a doorway. There is a spring attached to a suspension strap, allowing babies to use their feet to bounce up and down, while being supported by the seat. The spring that suspends the jumper seat from the doorway can break. Babies can fall to the ground and suffer serious injuries.Fisher-Price has received 80 reports of the springs breaking. Twenty babies have been injured. The injuries include nine lacerations to heads, five of which required stitches or staples, a dislocated tailbone, a black eye and bumps, bruises and scrapes. Only model numbers 9144 and 9146 are being recalled. The model number is molded into the underside of the plastic tray attached to the soft seat. The jumper is red and blue, or all blue, with a bright yellow propeller decoration on the front of the seat. "Fisher-Price" is written on the front of the tray. Fisher-Price will help consumers determine if they have a recalled jumper.The Hop, Skip, Jumpers were sold by mass merchandise, juvenile products and discount stores from January 1987 through January 1994 for about $25.Consumers should stop using the jumpers immediately. Fisher-Price will provide a free repair kit with a new, suspension strap to support the jumper seat if the spring breaks. The repair can be done quickly and easily in the home. Recall of Big ActionTM Construction ToysThe Big Action Construction toy is a large plastic construction set that features a rotating crane that sits on top of a construction site. The crane has a bucket that is attached by a 25-inch strap. The bucket can be raised and lowered by using a turning crank on the crane. Children can wrap the 25-inch strap around their necks, posing a strangulation hazard. Fisher-Price has received 16 reports of children wrapping the strap around their necks. Seven children suffered minor injuries. The recalled Big Action Construction toys are model number 72028. The model number is on the underside of the toy. The toy has a brown base with a yellow and silver crane and a blue drawbridge. "Fisher- Price" is written on the crane. The toy has two construction vehicles and a number of boulders. Only models with a 25-inch strap attached to the crane are being recalled.Toy, mass merchandise and discount stores sold the Big Action Construction toys nationwide from January 1997 through June 2000 for about $60.Consumers should cut the 25-inch strap off of the toy immediately and throw the strap away. Fisher-Price will provide a free replacement crane boom and bucket with a 12-inch strap so that children cannot wrap it around their necks

CPSC, Appliance Co. of America Announce Recall of Toaster Ovens WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Appliance Co. of America, of Great Neck, N.Y., recalled about 7,000 Welbilt toaster ovens. The ovens' heating elements can break, causing the glass door to shatter. The toasters could short circuit, causing electrical shocks and fires. Appliance Co. of America has received 14 reports of heating elements breaking. In one incident, the glass door broke, and in another, a countertop was scorched. No injuries have been reported. These Welbilt toaster ovens with rotisserie and griddle have model number TR660 on the back of the oven. The oven is white and black about 17 inches wide and 12 inches high, and has a glass door. Three knobs on the right side of the oven control the temperature; function, such as broil, rotisserie, toast and bake; and length of time. "WELBILT® Toaster Oven With Rotisserie & Griddle" is written on the oven's lower-right front. Club, discount and department stores, and mail order catalogs sold the toaster ovens nationwide from January 2000 through May 2000 for about $100. Consumers should stop using these toaster ovens immediately and discard or destroy them. The firm is out of business and cannot be contacted.

The fuel tank vents on these products can leak, posing a fire hazard. Tanaka and CPSC have received one report of a hedge trimmer catching fire and causing minor damage. No injuries have been reported. The products are orange with black handles and have "Tanaka" and the model number printed on the recoil starter cover. The serial number is located on a label on the side of the engine. About 105,000 "3-in-1 Cradle Swings" with detachable carriers are being recalled, along with 235,000 "Bounce 'n Play Activity Domes." Recall of 3-in-1 Cradle Swing With Detachable Carrier The 3-in-1 Cradle Swing has a detachable seat that can be used as a carrier. When used as a carrier, the locks for the handle can unexpectedly release, causing the seat to flip forward. When this happens, infants can fall to the ground and suffer serious injuries. There have been 28 reports of the carrier's handle unexpectedly releasing when used as a carrier, resulting in injuries to 10 infants. The injuries include a skull fracture, bumps, bruises and scrapes to the head. According to the reports, some injuries occurred to infants who were restrained in the seat. The recalled Fisher-Price 3-in-1 Cradle Swings are model numbers 79321 and 79322. The model number is on the underside of the motor housing and on the bottom of the seat. "Fisher-Price" is on the front of the motor's housing and on the bottom of the seat. Only swings with detachable carriers are included in this recall. Mass merchandise, juvenile products and major discount stores sold the 3-in-1 Cradle Swings nationwide from March 1997 through January 1999 for about $100. Consumers should stop using the swing's seat as a carrier immediately. Fisher-Price will provide a free repair kit that will lock the carrier's handle in place. The repair can be done quickly and easily in the home. Consumers can continue to use the seat as intended as a cradle swing. Fisher-Price Cradle Swings that do not have a detachable carrier (model numbers 79454, 79456 and 79386) are not included in this recall. Recall of Bounce 'n Play? Activity Dome The Bounce 'n Play Activity Dome is a portable play and nap space for indoor and outdoor use. The product resembles a pop up tent. It features a zippered canopy attached to a raised metal frame that suspends the play and nap surface so that it can bounce. The nylon bands that hold the surface level can detach allowing the surface to tilt. This can cause an infant to slide down against one end and be trapped in a position in which it is difficult to breathe, posing a suffocation hazard. There have been 28 reports of the nylon band detaching and causing the play and nap surface to tilt. No injuries have been reported. To determine if the Bounce 'n Play Activity Dome is part of the recall, check the notice tag on the bottom of the product. Model number 79534 is on the left side of the tag and a 6-character code is on the bottom of the tag. All codes that end with number 8 are included in the recall. All codes that end with number 9 and begin with numbers 001 through 286 are included in the recall. Only products with these codes are recalled. Fisher-Price will help consumers determine if their Activity Dome is recalled. "Fisher-Price" is on the canopy of the product. Mass merchandise, juvenile products and major discount stores have sold the Bounce 'n Play Activity Domes nationwide from December 1998 through March 2000 for about $50. Penney Announce Recall of Boys Jackets WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), J.C. Penney Co. Inc., of Plano, Texas, is recalling about 20,000 USA Olympic brand boys jackets. There are 7-inch drawstrings at the bottom of the jackets. Children could be dragged if the drawstrings catch in a vehicle's door, and suffer injury or death. J.C. Penney is not aware of any injuries or incidents involving these jackets. Since 1991, CPSC knows of 6 deaths and 8 injuries to children from coat drawstrings catching in bus or car doors. In 1996 CPSC issued guidelines for drawstrings on children's outerwear, which were subsequently incorporated into a voluntary standard. The standard limits bottom drawstrings on children's upper outerwear to 3 inches. J.C. Penney has been adhering to the voluntary standard and has implemented procedures to prevent future errors. The recalled USA Olympic brand jackets are reversible. One side has navy nylon fabric with grey and white stripes on the sleeves, two pockets, and the USA Olympic logo on the chest. The other side has grey polar fleece fabric, two pockets, and the USA Olympic logo on the back. The jackets are made in the United States in boys sizes 2T through 5T and 4 through 7. J.C. Penney stores nationwide sold the jackets from June 1999 to November 1999 for about $30. Consumers should stop using the jackets immediately. Announce Recall of Olympic Deck Cleaner WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), PPG Architectural Finishes (PPGAF) is voluntarily recalling about 420,000 jugs of Olympic Deck Cleaner. Caps used to seal the plastic jugs can allow air pressure to build up and cause the cleaner to seep past the cap or be expelled when the cap is removed. Eye damage or skin irritation could occur from direct contact with the product. PPGAF has received one consumer report and three reports from stores that noticed that containers of the deck cleaner had bulged or seeped. No injuries have been reported. The recalled Olympic Deck Cleaner was sold in 1-gallon and 2.5-gallon sizes. The beige jug has a green cap. The recalled deck cleaner has batch codes beginning with: 06C, 07C, 08C, 09C, 10C, 11C, 12C, 01D, 02D, 03D, 04D, 05D and 06D. The batch code is stamped on the back of the jug above the use instruction label. The label reads, in part, "OLYMPIC DECK CLEANER," "RESTORES THE CLEAN, NATURAL LOOK," and "FAST & EASY TO USE." The deck cleaner was sold at home improvement centers, hardware stores, and lumber yards nationwide from June 1998 through June 1999 for $7 to $9 for the 1-gallon jug and $14 to $16 for the 2.5-gallon jug. Consumers with this unused deck cleaner should not open the containers, and immediately call PPGAF toll-free at (888) 774-7332 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday for information about obtaining a free replacement cap. Jugs of Olympic Deck Cleaner sold with beige-colored caps are not part of this recall.

These distillers can overheat, posing a fire hazard. West Bend has received three reports of these distillers overheating and catching fire. There have been no reports of injuries. The oval-shaped distillers purify water, are made of white plastic, and have a clear, blue collection jug. The housing looks similar to a large automatic coffeemaker. They were sold under various trademarks which are printed on the front of the distillers. These trademarks include Millennium, Mountain Stream, Pure Logic, Sci Can, WaterWise, TIC, Usana, Table Charm, Roex and West Bend. A label on the bottom of the unit has the model number, W10120, and a date code from 9722 to 9848 in black print. Labels with red or gold print are not part of the recall. Direct selling dealers and door-to-door sales representatives nationwide sold these recalled distillers from May 1998 through August 1999 for about $500. Consumers should stop using these water distillers immediately. Consumers should call West Bend to get free pickup and repair of the water distillers. In addition, the company will return each repaired water distiller with three free charcoal post filters and an additional year warranty. Announce Recall to Replace "Pooh Poppin' Piano" Toys WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Tiger Electronics, Ltd., of Vernon Hills, Ill., is voluntarily recalling to replace approximately 202,000 Pooh Poppin' Piano toys. The green "leafy" top section of the carrot-shaped microphone attached to the piano toy can break off, posing a choking hazard to young children. Tiger has received three reports of the leafy top of the microphone breaking off. There are no reports of injuries. Only pianos with serial numbers starting with "WT" or "CO15D" are part of this program. The serial number is printed in two places: on a small label located inside the battery compartment, and on the bottom of the retail package. The piano toy is mostly lime green with eight characters from the "Winnie the Pooh" series that move up and down in response to pressing down corresponding piano keys. The orange and green microphone attaches to the piano with a short cord that amplifies sound. The toy announces eight color names, and plays piano sounds and eight pre-programmed children's songs. Toy and discount department sold these toys nationwide from August 1997 through August 1999 for about $20. Parents and caregivers should take these toys away from children immediately, and contact Tiger for instructions on returning it for a free replacement Pooh Poppin' Piano toy. Announce Recall of Undercabinet Fluorescent Lights WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), GE Home Electric Products Inc., of Cleveland, Ohio, is announcing the recall of about 9,100 undercabinet fluorescent light fixtures. These fixtures were improperly assembled and could present a serious electrical shock hazard to consumers. CPSC and GE have not received any reports of incidents or injuries resulting from the use of these lights. This recall is being conducted to prevent injuries. These lights are GE "Ultra Thin Line" 12-inch and 24-inch direct- wire, fluorescent, undercabinet fixtures. They are directly wired into the electrical system of the house. All the fixtures are white, and there is no writing on the outside of fixture. Before examining your fixture, turn the power off at the breaker switch. Under the plastic bulb guard, "GE Lighting" and the model number are written on a sticker. The model numbers subject to this recall are 23039, 27278, 23045 and 27281. The Home Depot, Lowe's, Hechingers, Builders' Square, Payless Cashways and Ace Hardware and other home center and hardware stores nationwide sold these light fixtures between February 1998 and April 1999 for about $35. Consumers should not touch these light fixtures, whether on or off, as long as the breaker switch is on. Consumers with these recalled light fixtures should call GE Home Electric Products to have a qualified electrician come to their home to replace the light fixture. Light fixtures plugged into wall sockets are not included in this recall.
